is there any other possible way to enable LTE B3 on N900T
Service menu *#2263# not work for me :(

There are some alternate codes that might work if you are on an older firmware version. You can try the ones below, but a better approach is to install a terminal emulator app and open the general service menu. You will need root to do that though.

dialer codes aka faint hope
*#27663368378#
*#197328640#

terminal reliable, if you are rooted
Code:
su
am broadcast -a android.provider.Telephony.SECRET_CODE -d android_secret_code://27663368378

Ah yes, a lot easier to troubleshoot when the crucial bits are included. Samsung says that the 900T supports band 3, so we need more information. How are you confirming that band 3 is active with your carrier and describe in more detail what you mean when you say that you can't select and apply the band. We can't see what you are looking at, so you should be giving us too much detail. Not too little.

For myself, I'd just force the band by poking the NV bit that sets the band. Then confirm with a spectrum analyzer and ethereal. Perhaps an easier starting point would be seing what the RSSI screen in the service menu shows e.g. signal strength and frequency or channel. Tell us exactly what you see in the menu, what you try to change and the observed result or error.

At a guess, you may have a conflicting setting or be setting the wrong parameter. Did you try rebooting after setting the band & confirm that the setting was persistent? Did you debug, do a logcat?

First of all sorry for inconvenience :(

when I press *#2263# and its already selected "Automatics".. First I clicked LTE BAND PREF -> then I got a menu LTE B2 to LTE B17 (As a picture posted earlier by rjohnstone post #21 )

then I clicked on LTE B3.. (but no star came up when i select it.. nothing changed. It must show a star if it applied.. correct?)
but IF i click on LTE B2 or LTE B4 it shows a star..
I want LTE B3 because my country only support LTE B3 band. (1800Mhz LTE frequency)

And unfortunatly I don't know about how to do forced change band from any other ways or about debug, logcat things :( :(

sorry for english :/

edit: The problem only with LTE.. This phone already works with 2G, 3G, 4G.. But NO "4G LTE"

I appreciate your good attitude and patience. But we're still operating with a lot of assumptions and few facts. Where are you located now? The way you word your description implies that you are trying to set band 3 while being somehere else. Somewhere that apparently uses bands 2 and 4.

If that is the case, then you're assuming that you should be able to select band 3 in advance of being in an area with an active B3 signal. Quite likely it is working fine, the lack of a star just meaning that there is no currently active signal there. No matter what the correct interpretation of a star being on the menu.. that is at best tenuous and indirect evidence of whether band 3 is in use or is selectable. We have to seperate our assumptions from observations that can be confirmed.

The type of details that help elucidate what is going on would be e.g.
What country is it that you want to use B3 in?
Are you testing it there or somewhere else?
Do you have an active SIM and if so with what carrier?
What is the current channel and signal strength in use (from the service menu)?
And detailed descriptions of what you observed as in your last post - that was very helpful.

It sounds like you may be testing this in a different locale.. and are misinterpreting what the stars signify. Which isn't a crime; these menus are not well documented.. and that is all the more reason why we need to test and confirm our assumptions. If you have any more details, or if I got any parts wrong, let us know.

My country Sri Lanka
as for the wiki -> Mobitel - Sri Lanka - 1800Mhz - Band 3 - FDD
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks (see Asia section)
ya I have an active SIM and it's working now.. I used this N900T when I was in USA and worked well with their 4G LTE.. (T-mobile)
before I came here I unlocked this with help of them.

See the picture..
but here only "4G" but no "4G LTE"
I searched and I found that because 4G LTE can be used in our country which are only support Band-3 (frequency 1800Mhz) by the handset.

Okay. I don't see anything yet that indicates a problem. We're probably just worrying over flawed assumptions. The screen shot shows you connected to Mobitel. The "band 1" in the menu refers to the RRC band, not LTE band 1. LTE band 3 for you is data only, not voice and while we haven't discerned or confirmed the meaning of the stars yet, there isn't much basis to worry.

Are you seeing LTE speed data? That would be your most obvious test. The presence of a 4G vs LTE icon is pretty much meaningless. Each carrier defines 4G /LTE differently as does Samsung. So you can't trust the icon to be an accurate measure of much.

As to trying to lock your phone into using LTE only.. I think that a more effective place to do that is in the general service menu. Refer to post #54 here and look for LTE frequency lock under UE settings. Be aware that LTE uses a lot more battery than 3G though.

By locking the frequency you are just preventing "hunting" so that the phone spends more time where you want it. I'm not aware of any absolute toggle that would always force LTE operation on the S5, all you can do is force a preference if two usable modes are available. There are some apps that can help configure this e.g. 4G LTE Switch. Short of modifying the NV data that is about as good as it gets.

Phones are generally designed to fall back to 3G if the LTE signal becomes too weak. To that end, it is possible to tweak the radio calibration data to bump up the LTE dwell time. But in practical terms, just lock the frequency. You can experiment with enabling release version 10. The S5 supports it but I have no idea if your carrier does. You'll also want to enable carrier aggregation (CA control) if your carrier supports it. Don't leave it enabled if your carrier does not use it.

If you use your phone in a fixed location.. you can also consider using an external antenna or even fentocell repeater, as a stronger signal will optimize both LTE dwell time and throughput per se. Also your phone's modem (firmware) can make a significant difference in LTE performance.. so you can do some searches to see what modem versions are acclaimed.. or try a different modem yourself.

Thank you for the nice reply :) :)

here I have LTE signals for other devices which are support Band 3..

I tried to lock frequency on Band 3 it says "EARFCN not within selected ban"
and others also i can't select (LTE freq lock)
how ever how about different N9005 modem?? will it change LTE signal to Band 3..?? because I saw N9005 already supported with this network.. it has LTE B3.

that "4G LTE Switch" app not compatible with N900T

It's not clear what is going on. EARFCN refers to the LTE band (center) frequency. So the error implies that the phone isn't seeing a signal on LTE B3. Perhaps you are in a weak signal area or your phone may not be properly configured for LTE e.g. bad carrier config file, CSC not recognized, not unlocked, faulty radio alignment, carrier side issues. What does the *#0011# menu say about your LTE signal and what are your data speeds like?

It's a little surprising that the LTE app doesn't support your N3.. most Samsung phones including the S5 are supported. There are half a dozen similar apps though and one of the others will probably work for you. You should look into that, it will help you sort this out.

1800 Mhz (LTE band 3) is assigned to your carrier, so perhaps try it again in another locale. If you don't see an obvious cause for the issue you might want to try installing a different modem or open a support ticket with Mobitel.

on *#0011# menu there is nothing about LTE signals... I checked on other S2 4G LTE phone, its around 60-90Mbps speed from this carrier..

ya I saw a comment also that telling not supported by N900T some user.

ya i have to try in another location, well if I install different modem is it cause to bootloop or something?? if it do is there any rescue method??
And need another big help, please give me a modem file of N9005 that can install and try on my phone??
And tell me how to backup current modem file??

I have rooted my phone but I haven't install any CWM or TWRP or any other kernel except original ones..

see image.. my current firmware and baseband..

Your N900T does not appear to be receiving a LTE signal. Which would neatly account for the EARFCN error and everything else. Why? Well, I already suggested a number of possibilities to investigate. It's probably a configuration error of some type. You should see if you can find another LTE app and open a Mobitel support ticket.

You could also try installing a different modem and /or upgrading your firmware. But be advised that if you don't do that properly you could create a warranty issue (Knox bit) or damage (brick) your phone. And you should always make a Nandroid (full backup) at the outset. I don't have time to teach you how to install modems, but there are myriad threads on the subject if you do some reading. The actual modem files should be in this thread.

I'd suggest pursuing a Mobitel ticket before updating modems though.

A little questions
I have N900TUVUCNB4, I'm on 4.4.2. If I tick NV REBUILD

1. my phone gets region unlocked? e.g. can my phone works using non-tMo SIM ??
2. is IMEI intact after this procedure? so, my IMEI gets 000000000 ??
3. side-effects of the Nv rebuild?? in terms of stability

Thanks :)

1 - no
2 - this should not affect your imei.
3 - if anything, should be more stable.

I cannot guarantee anything, but based on mine and others experiences in this thread, the above is true.

All,

I noticed on the TMO version of the GN3, that we are very limited in our service mode options. Well, I'm proud to say I've managed to get to the ACTUAL main menu of the service mode, rather than the debug info only menu.

*** DO THESE STEPS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE.***
Here's the trick I used on 4.4.2 Stock:

1) Open Phone, go to the dialer.
2) Enter *#197328640# to enter the service mode. You will land at "DEBUG SCREEN"
3) Hit the menu key, select "Key Input" and in the Input Value box, enter Q (capital letter) and hit OK
4) Hit the menu key again, select "Key Input", and in the Input value box, enter 0000 (four zeros) and hit OK
5) Wait about 5-10 seconds, your service menu should change to "MAIN MENU":

Code:
MAIN MENU
[1] PROTOCOL STATE
[2] UE SETTINGS & INFO
[3] ETC
[4] DEBUG SCREEN(OPEN)
[5] OPERATOR(OPEN)
...

Hi, instead of following 5 steps above, please try the code *#27663368378# to get directly to the ServiceMode MAIN MENU (?)

Anyone have any suggestions as to why doing an NVREBUILD would result in complete loss of data and LTE? Phone shows I have edge connection in the status bar, but its so slow that nothing works. I've done this before on my old S3, and it always did the trick in between flashes when gps got flaky. Any suggestions appreciated. Could be a coincidence that LTE just happened to go down by my home when I did the NV trick, but unlikely.

Fixed......had to go into *#2263# and select all bands on LTE, came back on instantly.

Now I haven't messed around in here too much, but if you want to reset your modem and GPS (restore the factory NV values for the modem, which COULD help data dropouts, bad GPS fix, etc.), do the following:

1) Enter the MAIN MENU as described above
2) Select option 2 "UE SETTINGS & INFO"
3) Select option 1 "SETTING"
4) Select option 2 "SYSTEM"
5) Select option 3 "NV REBUILD"
6) Select option 3 "ALL"
7) It will tell you to reboot. Do it. Reboot will take slightly longer, but it will completely reset the modem, GPS, and IMS settings

I'm sure there's a lot more that can be done that would be useful in the main menu, but I'm not feeling like destroying my phone ATTM, so I'll let others chime in.

Hit Thanks if you found this useful! :)

Wow, after the DNF9 update on my SM-N900T my data speeds were very very bad, even had it replaced via warranty, new one arrived, after the same DNF9 update on the new device the data speeds were bad again.

OP this was very frustrating, but you saved my sanity. Doing the exact steps from your op fixed my issue. Can't thank you enough.

Now I have to figure out how to carrier unlock this without rooting or tripping Knox. I saw someone mention it in here but didn't see any follow up or instructions. Any takers?

Btw donation to OP when I get a chance later today.

Just wondering if anyone can help me out here, I purchased a N900T off ebay I'm in Canada phone has now been unlocked, I just upgraded to the latest firmware because I noticed the phone is not picking up LTE. My carrier supports LTE I click on LTE all and I get no service after. If I keep it on automatic I'm stuck on 4g. If it helps I'm on Videotron can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

First off this should be posted in questions and answers. You must manually add your carrier APN to acquire their service. On custom roms such as CM this is done automatically.

PS. On some networks 4g is LTE.

Ok thanks I'll ask there and try and figure it out. I've tried multiple carriers and still nothing. This and our n900w8 are pretty much the same model.
