[MOD] Customize ALL Sense Lock Rings [How To + Requests + Photoshop tips!!]

Now we can start the tutorial!!

1. Download the Virtuous Ten Studio from here and install it.
   NOTE: To edit the images and compile it without getting a watermark on the image, you will need to buy a license.
   
   
2. Using Root Explorer (Or any other file explorer) go to system/app and copy the fusion.apk to your sdcard.
   
3. Copy the apk to your computer and open VTS
   
   You could also directly PULL the apk from your phone:
   adb pull /system/app/fusion.apk will pull the file to whatever directory you open the command prompt from
   (Thanks to NRGZ28 for giving this suggestion)
   
   
4. Once the program has opened up, click on file then new project
   
5. Select the M10-Project option and type in the Project Name and Solution Name. (This can be any name you like)
   
6. On the left side menu select M10-Engine and select Sense version. (This will be the same Sense version you are running or you are making a lock ring for.)
   
7. Then select import from the left side menu and browse to your fusion.apk file. Then click ok.
   
8. On the left side you will see the Solution Explorer. Navigate through the folders. The lock ring image will be in assets\<name of skin>\drawable\shared\Images. The name of the lock ring will be lockscreen_ring.png. Right click this file and click open in explorer.
   
9. The folder containing the png will open up. Replace that image with your image making sure that the file you are copying has EXACTLY the SAME name and same size.
   (The second post includes tips and tricks on adding effects to the lock ring)
   
10. Then once you have replaced the lock ring with whatever pictures you want, go back to the program and right click on your project name. Then click on Build Project.
    
11. The application will automatically zipalign and sign it for you so you do not have to do anything.
    
12. Once the apk is built, right click the same project name and click on Open in Explorer. Then navigate to the Binary folder and copy that fusion.apk.
    
13. Now you can either push the fusion.apk to your phone or copy and paste it using Root Explorer ( or any other file explorer) or you can make a flashable zip out of it.
    To make a flashable zip, download the blank update.zip that i have attached in this post. Then open it with winrar or winzip etc.. and then copy the apk file into the system/app folder in the update.zip
    DO NOT EXTRACT the update.zip
    Then you can flash this zip file normally from recovery.
    
14. Also make sure that if you are copying the file to the system/app, set the permissions as RW-R--R

I will be porting all the lock rings on a request basis as it will be very time consuming to do all. Those that have been updated will be in Bold.

1. Open the lock ring in Photoshop.
   
2. Click on the TYPE TOOL in the sidebar on the left and type the text you want to engrave.
   
3. On the right sidebar, right click on the layer with your text and click on blending options.
   
4. Select inner shadow and input the following settings:-
   
   • Blend Mode = Multiply
   • Color = Black
   • Angle = 30
   • Use Global Light box ticked
   • Opacity = 75%
   • Distance = 5px
   • Choke = 7%
   • Size = 5px
5. Then select bevel and emboss and input the following settings:-
   
   • Style = Outer Bevel
   • Technique = Chisel Hard
   • Depth = 1000%
   • Direction = Up
   • Size = 0px
   • Soften = 16px
   • Angle = 30
   • Altitude = 30
   • Use Global Light box ticked
   • Highlight mode = Screen
   • Color of Highlight Mode = White
   • Opacity = 75%
   • Shadow mode = Multiply
   • Color of Shadow mode = black
   • Opacity = 75%
6. Click OK and save the file as a PNG file.
7. There will be a popup asking whether you want the PNG to be interlaced or not. Choose none.

1. Open the lock ring in Photoshop.
   
2. From the top menu, go to Image ---> Adjustments ---> Variations.
   
3. A window will open up.
   
4. In the window that just opened, move the pointer towards Coarse.
   
5. You can now select the color that you want.
   
6. You can also adjust the pointer between fine and coarse depending on the color you wish to achieve.
   
7. There are also options of Light and Dark which will also help to get the desired color.
   
8. After you've changed the color, click on save and save it as a PNG file.

edit: changed to htc stock skin and it works, but i use the music lover skin , any way to get this to work on other skins please?

ok so something is really weird here... i changed to burgundy skin and the blue sky skin just to check if it worked on them and I somehow now have the leedroid embossed ring on those two skins??? iv never installed anythign from leedroid or anything other than my stock 2.3.4 rooted rom.

sorry for so many posts here but can you make a black one that works for all the stock skins and the musiclover one?(or just the musiclover skin) i think you may have accidentally included the leedroid lock ring on two of the stock skins in the black ring.zip .. also , if you could i think a ring like the leedroid one with "superuser" engraved on it would be cool if that's possible, thanks
