HTC Rogers Dream

I am envious as hell.

Hi Demkantor,

Do you think the procedure on this thread would work on an HTC Rogers Dream?

I've rooted my phone via Androot a couple months back but could not move on from there :(

You can use flash_image from a terminal on the phone
First of all, what recovery do you want?
I think amon_ra is the only one that supports rogers
Make sure you download the rogers version
Put it at the root of your sd
Open a terminal on the phone and type "flash_image /sdcard/nameofyourrecoveryimage.img"
Replace "nameofyourrecoveryimage" with the file name.
If it gives errors about something like no space or similar, try again.

There, you now have a custom recovery.
Although if you're looking for a good rom most of them require a newer radio/spl also.

Steps to upgrade HTC Rogers Dream

Hi again,

I'd like to update my HTC Rogers Dream to Froyo by Laszlo. Hope it's ok if I try to get the procedures straight.

- Root the phone (done via androot)
- install a recovery (anyone can point me to where I can get amon_ra?)
- install/flash Froyo by Laszlo (have yet to search for this too)

Hope someone can give me a hand here. Thanks.

Close.
1. Root.
2. Install recovery.
3. Install engineering spl.
4. Install 1.33.0013d spl and 2708+ radio and non-rogers recovery.
5. Install Froyobylaszlo

Just google for "amon ra g1" and you'll find it easily.
Remember to get the rogers one the first time.

Be very careful when flashing stuff. Research or ask here about it.
Get all the files, tell us what you are flashing.

frankdrey,

thanks so much for your patience with me. I've refrained from posting for the fear of asking a stupid question, so I really appreciate your offer to ask on my research or files I've downloaded to flash.

I will do this slowly, and will post here as I go along. Thanks again.

demkantor,

thanks for the links. In my research, I've already seen the first and third ones.

I will go through these again in more detail, and will let you guys know in case I have any queries. Thanks again. :)

well ive never tried to use androot, always just the old fashion way of rooting for me.
which by the way wont take you all night so maybe you could try that?

    http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Dream:_Rooting

to answer your question you dont seem to have super user permissions so nothing needed su will work
out of curiosity, if your on windows and typing .img at the end of the file dont, just name it recovery

I've rooted over 40 g1s and never have I found one that works but is unrootable. Did you download the .nbh file from the wiki? Also when you boot the phone is the splash screen htc or rogers or g1 or what does it say

The unlocker has a great video explaining how to do the goldcard method. I only tried it once along time ago just to see how it works, so I won't be too much of a help on that when I'm not in front of a computer
