Beginner here need help in rooting

Hi guys, I'm a beginner trying to root my htc desire s and want to upgrade to the latest stock android.. I've already read some basics on the s-off thingy but I'm still really shaky.. Can anyone please guide me on some steps? Need some spoon feeding here.

1st of all get unlocked with HTC support (check their support site).
Then flash a recovery like 4EXT, now you can install update.zip with su binary through the recovery.
That's all.

Then you can tell us what you really want?

We need your hboot version....
then what you want to do..S-OFF or S-ON unlock?

Its easy. I was like you when i first started root. But when i got the hang of it,it became a habbit.
First get a good pc.
Second unlock bootloader and get fastboot drivers.
Third flash recovery.
Fourth get a rom and get your boot.img
Fifth flash boot.img via fastboot.
Sixth,flash rom.
Done,nailed it.
Search for details in the dev. Thread.
