W 15MB/s

Kingston 8GB SDHC class10

speed = 0 = **** card ... antutu benchmark lag with this card ... speed unmeasured

Sony 8GB class 4, SR-8C4

AnTuTu Benchmark 2.5.4 with GingerDX 22 - stock kernel - no OC

Write = (7.0 MB/s) 70
Read = (15.2 MB/s) 152
CPU freq = 600Mhz

Just today I've changed my SD to Samsung 16GB class 10 !

AnTuTu Benchmark 2.5.4 with GingerDX 22 - stock kernel - no OC

Write = (12.9 MB/s) 129
Read = (17.8 MB/s) 178
CPU Frequency = 600Mhz

Great improvement than previous Sony 8G class 4 !

However I think the device don't reach SD Card available speed.

Just today I've changed my SD to Samsung 16GB class 10 !

A few days ago I tested a 32GB Samsung Class 10 in the X8.

I got similar Read/Write speeds, but the problem was that after copying around a few files they either became corrupted or the SD suddenly unmounted (and refused to mount again).

However, since the card wasn't meant for the X8 but my Galaxy S2 I formatted the card and put it into the S2 where it does work flawlessly and is ~2-3MB faster at read/writes.

Anyway, since I also got hold of a 32GB ADATA Class 4 (AData is some Chinese manufacturer I never heard of before) I tested that card as well. This one works in the X8 (GDX v022, Stock Kernel, no O/C) and runs at ~5.656 MB/s write and ~9.283 MB/s read. Not really a top-performer for a Class 4, but what to expect of a ~$50 (EDIT: ~EUR40) card.

Unfortunately the 16GB is the max memory size supported by our X8.
Other people had tried to run 32GB but all have notice about data corruptions...

Take care about use this memory size, all catched data corruption when is near to be > 32GB used.

Fortunately in a..z.n (I don't know if possible to write entire name) I've found monday a very cheap 16GB class 10 for only 19 Euro.

That's not entirely correct. The SD size limitation is more like a artificial limitation of Android itself (the Linux Kernel and related drivers/filesystems don't have any size limitation imposed).

I know that SEMC wrote about "up to 16GB" in their tech specs of the W/X8 - though that relates to the 2.1.1 Stock ROM - Froyo and Gingerbread ROMs are [EDIT 2 (rephrase): Gingerbread can handle 32GB mSD, Froyo _should_ be able to deal with them as well, though not entirely sure about it] able to address 32GB correctly. (EDIT 1: In short - if you look at the tech specs of any phone that shipped with 2.1 by default you will read "up to 16GB" at the SD expansion specs).

On a second thought I should add that SDHC cards (and the mSD's we use in the Android phones are SDHC ones) are only specified for up to 32GB. Larger mSD (i.e. 64GB) are SDXC and not compatible to the SDHC standard. That's a limitation of the SD card reader and its controller chip.

Take care about use this memory size, all catched data corruption when is near to be > 32GB used.

Ok, I'm going to conduct that test ... will fill up the ADATA card above the 16GB "threshold" and report back how it went.

Uh... thank you very much for note !
I'm hoping to step up my X8 to more than 16GB.

When you have some good new PLEASE remember you to write here the results, with also the memory type used, so I can update my/our systems.

Have you a nice day !

    insert your card into cardreader and record big file, and check record speed.

    It may be a hardware problem, but testing the speed on a pc would be taking you out from the doubt.

    I'm using a class 10 8gb Kingston microSD. No problem at all.

    However, I experienced heavy writing problems with class 4 8gb Kingston. This was the reason why I had to resell this card, only to check with my own eyes the problem was on the x8 and not in the class 4 microSD.

    Its class 8

    Those results mean nothing, there are lots of things that can influenciate speed. Also, the cards' speed is tested on factory with a special machine, not a computer, so real world speeds are always a bit slower. If the card was a fake i think it would be getting far worst performance.
    Test it on a desktop pc (rear ports) using a decent card reader.

    interesting is 8GB of 10class card is about 90% slower than the stock 2GB class4
