U can use greenify, seeder,pimp my rom apps & some scripts
But root required

Use Greenify, you can get it from Play Store.
You can install stock ICS based custom ROMs.
Avoid using task killers.
Remove unnecessary system apps, with file explorer (ES File Explorer for example) or via another app (Titanium Backup). List of apps with explanation - http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1089470

1Best way to speed up phone is to delete system apps with Titanium backup (when rooted phone) and free up space. Other apps will run much faster, battery life will increase, etc... You can find list of apps that you can safely remove, here on xda, just search.
