Those who are overclocking, what settings are running stable for you? I seem to be able to hit just shy of 1.2ghz. Does changing the vsel of slot 3 help with stability? In general, does increasing the vsel setting help with stability (but hurt battery life)? I'm trying to understand what changing that really does.

Thanks!

Yes, the vsel translates to the amount of voltage being sent to the CPU. So if you up the VSEL you will be able to overclock higher but the battery draw will be more significant.

So, after trying various methods and values for overclocking this is where I'm at:

- Running on SCV5.2 -
At first, I was just doing some adjustments using Terminal Emulator through /proc/opptimizer.. bumping it up from 1122 to 1175 or 1180, but I kept getting freeze-ups (it would just lock up, sometimes self-rebooted), especially when testing in antutu (or even just using boat browser, or flipping b/w apps quickly).

Then I moved on to Milestone, and boosted slot 3 back up to 1122MHz, 61 vsel at boot (after a short test), and started to play around with different values.
I gently nudged it up to 1150 and kept it for a few hours with moderate usage and an antutu test or two.. then up to 1175 for a couple of hours and tests..
Below are the results of my best benchmark so far (finally out-performed SGS2!!)
I think the SD card results were a fluke - have never been able to repeat the results (had SD-Booster set to 1824 for my Class 4, 8GB card)..

Still can't safely get to 1200..
These are my current settings, and they seem pretty stable:
slot 3: rate=1175000000, vsel=61
slot 2: rate=900000000, vsel=58
slot 1: stock (600M, 43)
slot 0: stock (300M, 26)
gpu_opps: rate=384000000

------
EDIT: just moved it up to 1188 and let it sit for a few minutes - and it just froze into a stuttering reboot trying to open CPU Master Pro! Starting over... Am I doing something wrong, or my system just can't handle it??

Sounds like your phone just can't do it. A lot of these chips can't actually reach 1.2ghz, but most can get close, 1175 seems pretty good. :)

Always take SD Speeds with a grain of salt.

Yea, i don't think my phone can do it - anything over 1180, it eventually freezes...
and, i did manage to get the SD read/write speed scores up to 150/192 once again - but yea, those scores jump all over the place depending on when you run the test..

I'm done with this overclocking business for now... the phone's fast enough as is - it's got much better performance then my wife's stock rooted 2.3.6 A2 - her phone averages 5100ish in antutu and lags a lot when playing angry birds, while mine gets 5700ish and only lags once and a while, usually while playing world of goo..

Mine got up to 1199 it would reboot a couple of times and when i tried to go to 1200 it would freeze like yours. So you aren't the only one with the sad news

I can go up to 1220 mhz fine. Here are my settings. Using milestone overclock on schv5
echo 3 1220000000 1390000 >/proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 2 1000000000 1365000 >/proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 384000000 > /proc/overclock/gpu_opps

If anyone wants to try. Stable for now, not a single crash.

Sent from my MB865 using XDA

I can go up to 1300 mhz .
but 1200mhz is much more stable
Here are my settings.

echo 3 1200000000 1220000 >/proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 2 1000000000 1100000 >/proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 1 650000000 1000000 >/proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 0 3000000000 900000 >/proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 384000000 > /proc/overclock/gpu_opps

echo 3 1200000000 1220000 >/proc/overclock/mpu_opps ->
echo 3 1233000000 1240000 >/proc/overclock/mpu_opps ->
echo 3 1250000000 1250000 >/proc/overclock/mpu_opps->
echo 3 1300000000 1260000/1270000 >/proc/overclock/mpu_opps
(i forget)

Hi! I'm new to this forum (and a new Atrix 2 user too), but I have something to report about this kernel modules.
Yesterday I upgraded my firmware to the version 55.13.26.MB865.ATT.en and after that I couldn't undervoltage the state 0 (300MHz) anymore. Any change in the voltage of this stage make the phone reboot instantaneously.
It was working perfectly at 0.850 V before that.
I'm not completely sure about the GPU overclock anymore too.. If it's working, it is not so effective anymore.

Cheers,
Luis

Not sure how you were able to, but I've never been able to go under 1.025 V / vsel 26. On both 55.11.16's and 55.13.25's kernels, going vsel 25 or below instantly reboots.

I think it's either a bug in the kernel module, some limitation in the kernel itself, or possibly a result of a minor kernel difference between the ME865 and the MB865 kernel. (tekahuna used the me865 source as a reference for the edison modules).

From what he says about it, the omap4's power layer is a bit more complicated than just setting a voltage and expecting the chip to actually run at that voltage.
There seems to be an ability to 'suggest' voltages to the opp layer (far more than the omap3 apparently), but the omap4 still seems to err on the side of stability vs low voltage.

(note:55.13.26 is just 55.13.25 with a higher version number specified in the updater package so it'll apply to partially updated 55.13.25 installs as well as 55.11.16)

I have been playing with this for a few days now. Couple hours on and a couple hours off not to mention some benchmarking and it seems to actually work! I take no credit for this all I did was test it on an "unsupported" phone. I would like to make an auto boot script just not with market apps.

To make this work at boot, you will have to put the script in /system/bin and edit the /system/etc/init.goldfish.sh file, and add the name of your script to the very bottom of the file.

If someone will post the updated browser.apk, I will put it into the ROM I am working on... I have had some great success today, on that front.

    Great news!!!

This is the browser.apk and browser.odex from the newest leak

Found this while reading through the post
    http://rootzwiki.com/topic/10806-easy-overclocking-almost-oneclick/
Seems to be an easier way. The only thing I can see about this is there is no sleep time with the phone since minimum is set 1000 also, so probably gonna suffer some on the battery side if I'm not mistaking.

    But cool find.

Just push both the files to the /system/app folder then reboot.

I tried using better emulator but it doesn't let me. How can I push to /system/app/?

just found a tutorial on adb. :) rebooting phone now. :)

So the file name is 1200. So we would just add 1200 down to the bottom of the file? or does it have to be called?

I pushed the files with adb and rebooted. No browser. :(

well.. i chmod 644 to browser.apk and rebooted.. no luck... so i deleted them.. good thing i left my originals as backups. so i just renamed them and rebooted. if it doesn't work, then it gives me a good reason to go to Opera or Dolphin. Bah!

Update.. got my browser back. whew. :)
