I'm not responsible for bricking your device.
In build.prop using RootExplorer I changed the
ro.radio.networkmode=disable to ro.radio.networkmode=enable. And now I have a selection to choose network mode I'm setting/mobile networks.

So we could use GSM/WCDMA preferred to save battery but still get hspa+ speeds. Nice. Thanks for the tutorial. Have you found any issues yet? Like network reverting after reboot or loss of data, etc?

Ok. As long as we have an easy option to turn it back on

Anyone with some cajones wanna try changing this value : ro.radio.topreviousmode=disable
I saw it directly below and my brain is interpreting or like "when phone reboots, default to previous network mode" which may show selections to persist through reboot. I'm not going to mess with it since I don't rightly care, but I figured I'd post it to see if anyone wanted to see if that works.

Change network selection mode on lg e980

To enable network selection mode for lg kit kat e980 edit build prop using root explorer change the following line from ATT to OPEN root is required for this.

I can confirm it resets after reboot.

    Issues

Just discovered I have a whole host of problems which are probably unrelated to the build.prop edit but I believe this is the best place to post it.

Couldn't get 4.4.2 ota maybe because I'm not in the US so I flashed it using the tot file and everything went smoothly. Tried the op's directions which didn't work for me (didn't read through the thread to discover it didn't work on 4.4). Don't use bluetooth much but noticed some issues with it at about this point but I didn't dig in deeper. Also noticed that knock-off wasn't anywhere even in settings and it didn't work.

Luckily, justin92 just solved my network selection headache but bluetooth is totally borked. Can see and pair with other devices but can't connect or send/receive files.
Tried reverting the build.prop to see if it'll solve the bluetooth issues. I was able to change OPEN back to ATT no problems but discovered I can't reverse ro.radio.networkmode=enable to ro.radio.networkmode=disable. Seems as if only 6 characters are allowed so it stops at "disabl". Not really bothered about this except it's the cause of the bluetooth problems. Any ideas?
