Not that i know of. Just have the phone flat for now. If you have it verical, it thinks your facing the opossite way.

A big update is coming but life is first. At first chance I will post, this project is very large and very time consuming

Mine actually worked right on the latest build. When I point the phone up it shows North. I use GPS Essentials then GPS Status to calibrate.
The compass on my phone actually rotates in the wrong direction. It gets N/S right, but W/E is flipped. E.g. if i rotate from N to E, the compass rotates from N to W; if I rotate from S to W, the compass rotates from S to E, etc...
Funny thing is that it works properly on Turl1's build. I've tried exchanging libraries/frameworks/kernel with the ones from Turl1's build, but no dice...
I've done that like 100x already. Still no dice...
What app would you recommend for calibration (aside from GPS status, which I've used)?
I use Essentials and then Status. Using just one doesn't seem to work fully. I get a rough calibration using Essentials, and then download A-GPS data and do a fine calibration with Status. When using Essentials, click Satellites and get a good fix before continuing on to the rest of the process.
OK, this is getting weird... GPS Essentials' compass is actually working properly, while others (GPS Status, GPS Test, Google Maps, etc) are flipping E & W.
Screenshots to show what I was talking about. All taken without moving the phone between screenshots.
I see the issue I'll try a few things out

I think this project is a great idea!!!
I'm curious if the following items could be added:

Existing ICS ROMs are diarrhea. I don't understand why you would take on a project this huge if what already exists is broken. Just saying...
