[GB][08-09-2012] CyanogenMod 7 for Motorola Milestone 2 (Android 2.3.7)

Search This thread
Hi all, i hope i am not repeating this question, i have had a good look around and can't find my answer!..

I had a bit of a failure while trying out some new custom ROMs and the only way to get my phone back was to flash the sbf;

Branding: Retail UK
Version: 4.1-22 NO DOWNGRADE
Android Version: 2.3.4

on this page..

http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1465476

Can i flash new custom ROM's now or am i stuck on the new retail version? My attempts to try have been unsuccessful.. is there a step i am missing?

My friend asked me to install this rom on his European milestone 2 with stock android 2.2. Can u give me some instructions on how to do it and what to watch out for? Should I root it first with superoneclick and then follow the instructions from page 1? Is there a possibility of bricking the phone? tnx

CM7 - Light sensor settings

Today I finally found a satisfying setting for the light sensor (see screenshot) and I thought it was worth sharing, since the default setting was very irresponsive for me.

If you want to try it, go to Settings > CyanogenMod > Display > Automatic Backlight then tick "Use custom".
Then enter "Edit other levels", Load defaults (this should limit your levels to 5), scroll to the end of the screen, Set number of levels, select 7 and then set the values according to the screenshot.
You will notice that some values are maxed at 254 instead of 255. This is because it seems that 255 might cause issues.

Other settings:

Window length: 10s
Reset Threshold: 400 lux
Sample interval: 1s
Allow light decrease: Checked
Decrease hysteresis: 50%

GPS signal [solved]

For those who has issues with the gps signal:

Using Google Maps Navigation the gps can't fix a point in the map. For example, yesterday I tried for 30 min and the only thing it shows is "Searching for GPS" which doesn't happen with stock roms (Brazil GB Retail 2.3.6, Froyo Retail...).

...a long time ago lol

Just extract the file in /data, it'll replace the original folder "location". Reboot and done.

1) You have to use ROM with GB kernel. So in case of CM7, use this http://android.loicg.net/roms/cm72-111215.1631-NIGHTLY-Milestone2-GB-v1.3.zip

If you flash ROM with incorrect kernel, the black screen appears, like in your case.

2) You can't go simply back form GB SBF to Froyo SBF. Once you flash GB SBF, you can't go back without downgrade process - so that's the reason, why you see black screen, when flashing MILS2_U6_2.4.24_

Hope it's clear :)

Hmm strange... I do not have any problem. Anyway try mirror on my server:
http://temp.anonymouz.eu/cm72-111215.1631-NIGHTLY-Milestone2-GB-v1.3.zip

Also check out wget log. It seems, that the server is all right - are you sure your connectivity is ok?

so
I've tried all types of flashing and so, yet I get same black screen after rebooting my phone
not sure if any of my files are wrong, yet I don't think so
I've tried all I can think of, all custom roms and stuff, but no result

I can get to root my phone, install bootstraper then bootmenu, wiped all data and cache but while installing the mod, it loads the installation and after last reboot I get a blank screen with no options to get back in bootmenu or recovery
it's rather my fault or not, but I can't install it, not even with your fast help from post above

any tips left?
cheers and ty ;)

Hmm.. this is really strange. I know, that argentina (and maybe some other - like Brazil? But not sure - maybe just argentina one) SBF is un-rootable. But you are saying, that you have rooted it successfully.. So...

Hmm, ok, one last try.

1) install UK GB SBF (linked in my last post)

2) root it via superoneclick

3) install droid2bootstrap

4) install bootmenu 0.8.6 from my attachment

5) install bootmenu 1.1.0 from my attachment

6) try to install this CM9 http://code.google.com/p/cm9-milest...ail?name=CM9-NIGHTLY-120602-milestone2-eu.zip

(maybe you will have to wipe data/cache after flashing SBF or after installing CM9, but that's the thing you probably already know...)

... I flashed CM9 that way last time - when my M2 came from warranty service with GB kernel (SBF) in it (so the classic "froyo way" did not worked as last time, before I've sent it to warranty repair)

Good luck and let me know if it helped. I will hope someone else will have better clue if it will not help.

Hi guys...
I have a new problem w/ this rom... maybe anyone can help me.

In this morning my phone "woke up" with a strange notification: low memory...
Well, looking for a solution I found this: forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/39718-workaround-for-small-datadata-partition/

I'm not sure if this can solve this problem... apparently it's a cm7's bug.

What do you think guys?

    Note:

If you have updated to stock gingerbread, you can't use this rom until you downgrade.

Instructions for upgrading from stock ROM:
    1) Install Droid2 Bootstrap Recovery
    2) Boot into recovery
    3) Optionally: create a backup of your data
    4) Choose Install zip from sdcard -> Choose zip from sdcard and select downloaded ZIP file.
    5) Optionally: install Google Apps the same way
    6) Wipe data/factory reset
    7) Wipe cache partition
    8) Reboot and enjoy :)
    9) Optionally: use attached Baseband switcher app if you have troubles with phone signal.

Instructions for subsequent upgrades or upgrade from any CM7.x ROM:
    1) Boot into recovery (long power off -> Reboot)
    2) Choose "Install zip from sdcard" -> "Choose zip from sdcard" and select downloaded ZIP file.
    3) Advanced -> Wipe battery stats
    4) Advanced -> Wipe dalvik cache
    5) Reboot and enjoy :)

As you can see, the update from the stock ROM requires a complete wipe, so be sure to backup your important data!

    GIT sources:
    repo init -u git://github.com/tezet/android.git -b gingerbread
Any collaborators are more than welcomed! :)

If you like and appreciate my work, and you may donate here (now in English).

Many thanks to Quarx for his Defy port and all folks involved in Milestone2@XDA.

I've updated the ROM. It will most probably be the last version on Froyo kernel. Next versions will bring support for EU GB kernel users.
    5
To keep CM7 alive: updated to latest CM7 + added OTA updater.
    5
I'm uploading new version. I hope most demanded fixes and features are in place now. I'll switch to ICS development now, so don't expect any significant changes for gingerbread (at least in near future).

tezet, pls make a GB EU version to this rom. i have 2.3.6 stock on my milestone, just waiting for a GB version to flash it. this is the best rom for ml2!! :)

    +1

I will definetly use this ROM, there are a lot of users who can't downgrade and would love to have CM7!!
