Hi all,

I bought a used AT&T HTC one (M7) phone that has sat in a closet since it originally had 4.1.2. I'm pretty sure it was never rooted and I don't want to root it. I am trying to update android to 4.4.2 but when I click on AT&T Software update it flashes something momentarily and then does nothing. I contacted HTC and they told me to send it in for repair...but I don't want to be without a phone for 2 weeks.

Any advice?

are you completely sure that your phone had never been rooted because this nowmaly happens when the original recovery isn't installed

Yes totally sure.

Good news. After talking with HTC rep and doing all their magic, and also doing a factory reset. Rebooting a dozen times, spinning around twice counter clockwise, and eating a raw egg...my phone decided to start updating. Who knows which one was the solution.

Are you able to download the latest update ?
You also have to know that the updates aren't everywhere available at the same time. So perhaps you just have to wait

Hm... i really don't know what the problem could be.
Contact At&t and tell them that you can't get updates. There can be a problem with the connection to the update server.
And you are sure that your phone wasn't / isn't rooted?

Ive also pointed this user to necessary ruu's,doesnt seem to want to read and learn how to do any updating etc. Has posted in almost all threads the same question. Read first, attempt second, ask third imo...can lead a horse to water but cant make em drink

Also helped him a lot in this thread
My plan was to help him flash the 4.18.502.7 firmware and then the 4.18.502.7 RUU. He flashed the 4.18.502.7 firmware and then he never posted back there but preferred to post in other threads and start over.

Initially, his getvar was

Code:
version: 0.5
version-bootloader: [COLOR="Red"]1.44.0000[/COLOR]
version-baseband: 4T.24.3218.09
version -main: [COLOR="red"]4.18.502.7[/COLOR]
version-music: PVT SHIP S-ON
product: m7_ul
modelid: PN0712000
cidnum: 11111111

Where you can see a mismatch between version-main and bootloader version. Also phone is s-on but its obvious it was previously s-off and then turned back s-on. Helped him to flash the 4.18.502.7 firmware and getvar was then:

Code:
version: 0.5
version-bootloader: [B][COLOR="SeaGreen"]1.56.0000[/COLOR][/B]
version-baseband: 4T.24.3218.09
version -main: [B][COLOR="SeaGreen"]4.18.502.7[/COLOR][/B]
version-music: PVT SHIP S-ON
product: m7_ul
modelid: PN0712000
cidnum: 11111111

Then he was ready to flash the 4.18.502.7 ruu, posted him instructions how to flash it and he never posted back there.

---------- Post added at 04:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:11 PM ----------

Be more precise. Is it rooted? Have you flashed a costum rom ?

never been rooted and no flash rom

And you are sure that your phone wasn't / isn't rooted?

Phone is not stock hence why he can't update. Read above post and you'll understand. (hboot 1.44 and firmware 4.xx.502.x, SuperCID...)

Oh I know why he can't update. Its very simple....he has supercid (111111) he hasn't got the stock cidnumber. The only way is to change cidnum and to remove his root completely. Before he can do that he has to use sunshine I supose to gett s-off again to be able to change the cidnum. Than he just can use an RUU and everything should work.
