You can always root. I guess :)

Sent from my SK17i using XDA
Yeah.. I'm just concerned on those who have no idea on rooting because ics eat lots of memory as sony said.. I'm waiting for the official update not because I will use it, but because I want the bugs on custom ics roms to be fixed.. :D

dont sweat it.

here http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1320350 :)

it only takes 15 minutes max to root. :D

remember, you cant root .62 yet

Hi, I was asking about ICS rooting. I already have my phone on .62 with root using the downgrade/root/update over OTA method :)

yes you can go back to any firmware of gingerbread if you dont like ics by using easy flashtool toolkit.

What about Nandroid backups? Will they work?

no you dont need cwm recovery to install ics, you need sony pc update companian app on your computer or maybe just through the air from your phone.

Thanks for the reply but that wasn't actually what I asked. I was asking about downgrading from ICS to GB using a Nandroid backup that we can only access through recovery. How easy will it be to install recovery on ICS? Can we even use a Nandroid backup to downgrade from ICS to BG? I imagine the filesystem and partitions themselves will remain the same, can anyone confirm this?

Cheers.

Perfect! Thanks a lot!

Guess I was searching on the wrong forum hehe :) XDA is so big with so many sections that sometimes it's really hard to find the info I'm looking for, hopefully I'll get better at it :D

As for restoring from a Nandroid I guess I can always use Flashtool to downgrade and then apply the backup. For some reason I hadn't thought of that before heh

    Great news :)

I have a couple of questions though. If anyone is able to answer them I'd be thankful.

First of all, it seems root is already available on Xperia phones following some replies on this thread. Could someone please point me in the right direction as to how can we do it? A thread on this forum would do, sometimes even using search I get lost trying to find what I want :(

Second, suppose I don't like ICS and I'd rather revert back to GB. Will flashing the phone with a Nandroid backup work? I imagine I'll need root and install recovery first. Is recovery an easy thing to install on ICS? I installed my current recovery through the CWM Recovery installer available on Google Play, will it work on ICS? Will I need to unlock my bootloader to do it?
If a Nandroid backup won't work, will flashing the phone with Flashtool with a (rootable) .42 or .58 firmware work? If it does, will I still be able to update to .62 with OTA?

That's a lot of questions, I know..but I'd really like to know that stuff before I consider updating to ICS.

    Thanks in advance!
