Call Virgin Mobile.. Even if you don't have insurance they give you a 1 year warranty on the phone. I don't have insurance and just had mine replaced a few weeks ago due to a bad button. Call them up and they will do some troubleshooting and when it doesn't work they'll ship you one out. I got mine next day not incuding weekend

I bought it off somebody on craigslist (they bought it new on black friday from target), so I don't know if this applies to me, but it's worth a shot.

so.. no need for me to check for changes i made that would harm battery life?

Yeah no need to worry about the battery for now unless new reports come in.

Stock settings are 600 max 245 min.

SIO should be better for flash devices, but I have not read too much onto it. BFQ works really well on the desktop, so I go with that for now.

BFQ works well on desktops because most desktops use a spinning hard drive, and it tries to optimize how much content is written as the read head spindle takes some time to go from parked position to read/write mode. Flash drives don't need to wait.

Also I use stock speeds to help avoid heating up, along with a good scaling governor like ondemand (maybe with some tweaks) and Smartassv2. I did runs of 729/480 on Froyo and that worked relatively well.

I'd spinoff into a big post of what speeds to use but it really depends on your usage patterns. I don't believe ANYONE should be using the really high settings (800+, or even more than 748) due to the heat, and of course the governor will matter there as well. Something like interactive will keep yourself at the higher speeds to minimize lag and making your battery drain much faster. Example being, I can read a web page and interactive will mostly keep me at high speeds with the scrolling between and pressed and such. Ondemand will scale me down until I do something usually, so the actual reading part will be at the lowest speed. Interactive does scale down yes, but at a slower pace than ondemand.

Most governors are tweak-able in SetCPU. I myself am privy to OnDemand and Conservative, with conservative being slower to ramp up speeds, being easier on the battery. Using conservative help the battery at the cost of some performance, but its a minor trade off if you can tweak it to ramp up a little bit faster under load.

I run 122-864 Interactive and get great response and excellent battery (about 5-6 days between charges with my usage patterns). Interactive and ondemand ramp DOWN at about the same rate, ramping UP on interactive is more aggressive. That can also finish tasks quicker so the CPU goes to idle mode faster, thus saving battery in the big picture. There's little test data to backup a lot of these claims, most are just based on theory. Since I notice better response using interactive WITHOUT worse battery than ondemand, I keep it on interactive.

Someone asked earlier the difference between interactiveX and interactive, the X locks the CPU to min freq when screen is off, which can affect some apps that do processing in the background, pandora is an example of something that requires more CPU cycles to play music with screen off. With the stock android music app, it can play MP3's fine at 122 Mhz with screen off (use CPU Spy to check for yourself).

Hey for some reason the"flash image GUI" program is saying that the new recovery isn't for an Optimus. Guessing the app is wrong but just checking. Also is there another program i can use to flash from within the phone in case the app is wrong? The app i have is free on these forums but the app store says it's not free to update... Computer is down. I don't know if flashing via the recovery is possible or bright, since it would be overwriting itself while running.

Change all the capital letters in the .img file name to lower case. For some reason the app won't flash it otherwise, at least that was my experience.

Slow charging over USB

One thing that I've noticed recently is the slow charging over USB on Mirage w/ BobZHome 3.7 kernel and tvall's 0.2 kernel, it takes my phone about 5 hrs to go from 21% to 100% on USB. If I use the same PC USB port, but with a non-LG cable & micro-USB adapter, I can charge in 2 hrs because the phone recognizes it as AC charging (in Settings - About Phone). So it seems that the USB port is capable of more current, but either the kernel or ROM somewhere is not enabling the higher current. I remember blarf enabled faster charging last fall in IHO ROMs, here's the previous commit that is related to this issue.

https://github.com/inferiorhumanorg...mmit/3d6a8b097dc6c0783df39fdbac4cf8ea3c807ba7

BTW using the same LG cable with the LG AC adapter also charges faster, so the cable isn't the problem.

Ondemand doesn't downclock as gracefully as the others though, so it fits the bill when I do use my device, which consists of alot of reading and surfing. Having the device on most of the time and in engagement, well, I wouldn't want my CPU to be clocked so high so often. Sure, it can get stuff done faster, but having it generate more heat as I do nothing but read isn't all too cool.

Thus, really, all of it depends on your usage. Judging from your time between charges you don't really use the data/radio as much as I do, I need a steady connection for various reasons. Whereas you can easily get away with having your clocks so high, I cannot sadly. I do too much on my phone.

For me, I do alot of reading and surfing and texting, so I want my phone to stay clocked low and only coming out when I really need to do something to maximize life. Hence, I tweak the conservative governor a bit for some more responsiveness. It's slower to scale up, keeping my clocks low when I generally do anything except when I really need it.

my is charging fast by the wall or my pc so i don't get why you try and say it's the kernel win charging is working good on 2 cell's for me and im on tvall's 0.2 kernel and was on BobzHome kernel and it was working to so maybe it's just your cell?

I'm having a bit of trouble with Bluetooth...anytime I try connecting to anything it will say paired but not connected. Also after like 3days of use my screen responsiveness becomes terrible to the point where I can't text at all but clearing the dalvik seems to fix it for a while...not sure if the newest build will fix the issue or not tho

This bluetooth issue has been there for a few builds now. Everytime i want to pair my headset i have to turn bluetooth on, long press on my headset in the device list, unpair, then re-pair. Takes about 5 minutes to do it everytime too.

You can also flash in terminal. Place the image file on your sd card (not in any folders). Open terminal and use this command.

Just a note: while faster charging gets you moving faster, it also kills the battery faster. Generates more heat on the batteries. Also even though it's lithium ion, it does seem to hold a charge longer when charged slower.guessing it gets more ions turned but at a lower charge per ion.

It's possible it's just my phone, or something in the Mirage ROM. Could someone else who runs that ROM report how long charging using a PC USB port takes?

From what I've read in the source code for Ondemand and Interactive governors, ondemand uses a timer for sampling CPU load and ramps up or down after a time interval. Interactive always ramps to max CPU when coming out of an idle cycle, without waiting for any timer interval, which gives the better response. Ramping down is the same timer method as ondemand. Interactive should also be quicker to finish processing a chunk of code and return to a lower frequency, thus saving battery.

Could do a simple test, install CPU spy, reset its counters, perform your typical usage patterns for a minute, return to CPU Spy see how much time is spent at certain frequencies. Change governor, repeat same usage pattern for a minute and check in CPU spy again. I'm pretty sure interactive governor will spend more time at the lower frequencies.

Btw, has anyone found out how to obtain the radio update and a flashing method that they could point me to? The signal around my house has gone to shoot and the first thing they asked is if I'd updated...i feigned ignorance.

I have (with each new phone I do these tests for days), and actually OnDemand does spend more time at lower frequencies. Sometimes Interactive will randomly scale up for me, but OnDemand does not have this behavior for me.

Good to see knowledge passed around.

Here are a couple threads on doing the radio-only flash:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/op...-virgin-mobile-vm9-radio-update-restored.html

http://forums.androidcentral.com/op...ow-flash-zv9-update-technically-challeng.html

Edit: But after you have flashed the new baseband and call tech support back if they ask you about any of the new apps on the updated ROM like Books, or whatever else has been tacked onto it then you're on your own. :p

Should my phone be "awake" almost all the time??

I made some changes to my phone in the last few days: upgraded to Jerry's latest, installed tvall's kernel, removed my OC settings (back down to stock settings) via CPU Master, etc...

My battery seems to be dropping much faster than I'm used to. When I checked my battery stats I noticed that the phone seems to be 'awake' almost constantly--even though it's screen-off and in it's case on my belt the vast majority of the day...

I'm not sure I'm really clear on what 'awake' and 'sleep' states refer to--should my phone be this awake this often? (attached)

I'm used to having a battery in the high-70's to mid-80's after a full day of typical use....

You get a full day on BACKside with normal usage, that's about it. ;)

20-27 hours is the norm, but it all depends on the apps/widgets/settings you run, and the cell phone reception you have at the moment. Some people with basically nothing running get 30-40, but I prefer to use a smart phone, and that means apps are running that use the battery. I average 26hrs on a single charge.

Remember, rebooting, installing apps, testing apps out after a new ROM install to see how they work, all this eats your battery up the first few days after installation. For example, the second or even third day, you may use apps you haven't since a ROM update/install, and so the cache and/or dalvik-cache may need to be rebuilt for that app, or the app may need to do extra communication with host servers to download data you wiped before installing, etc, all eating extra battery.

    Inferior Human Organs unofficial CM7.2

IHO unofficial CyanogenMod is a port of the CyanogenMod ROM to the Optimus V and S (hopefully the C, M, U, and Vortex will follow).

In the interest of brevity I've moved the pertinent details to a Github wiki. Check out the freshly minted wiki here. This is the only thread which I monitor on a regular basis. Because there has been a proliferation of different ROMs based on IHO, I've stopped updating this post and moved that information to the wiki as well. This way the ROM authors can update the page themselves as they issue new builds. The latest versions of ROMs for the S and V are listed here on Github.

I would like to thank the following people for building ROMs and offering their support to end users so I can continue development:

    ath3nos, BobZhome, drewwalton19216801, JerryScript, KemikalElite, Mrg666, and Pbailey212.

Without these guys I suspect most of you would be looking at a pile of source, unsure what to do with it.

And a special thank you goes to Centinel/1cewolf for taking on the daunting task of cleaning up the wiki so that it's more accessible to end users. While the wiki is currently able to be modified by any user with a Github account, I'd like to ask that anyone proposing significant changes coordinate with him.

I also would like to thank the following users for offering financial assistance:

JerryScript, punkmaxx, MarMed10, Centinel, mustafu, crpeck, El Schisne, BobZhome, takehull, rb64, yogi4, mrg666, asadullah, szfinland, Ostrich Egg, wilberfan, Whyzor, ejlmd, LarryCL, Centinel, nemo3, and pandacookie.

Without these guys I'd be sober and bored.

If you'd like to help out financially or see your name on that list please consider donating. If you do want to see your name on that list please make sure to mention in the comments field of your donation what your screenname is. Otherwise if you'd like to claim the donation PM me the billing zipcode and dollar amount of the donation.

    Known Bugs

Fixed 07212011 USB Mass Storage is not working, you will have to use ADB or put your sdcard in another device for file transfers
(Blarfie is working on it, Windows USB drivers can be a nightmare)

Fixed 07302011 Custom ringtone settings are not followed, default ringtone rings instead

Fixed 07302011 Camera sometimes places artifacts on the edge of images when zoomed at some levels.
(The problem is known, expect a fix, but other things have a higher priority right now)

Voice Dialer button is not mapped, use Button Remapper and set it as you like.

Fixed 10172011Headset button doesn't work. Fixed 10172011, thanks rcmarotz (original thread here)

Fixed 07272011Android Market web interface doesn't allow automatic installs, says country is not supported. Fixed, see this post

Fixed 07212011 Screenshot app from the power button menu saves the images inverted 180 degrees, you can fix them with any photo editing app/prog, I just let photobucket take care of these screenshots.

In order to keep this as close to CyanogenMod7 source, I have left all the extras in there, which makes for a large install. You can use a bloat removing script such as mmarz's, or manually delete ringtones, wallpapers, etc as you like. If there is enough interest, I will post a slimed down version with most of the bloat removed.
