I want to download the JL1, but am worried about which kernel would then be compatible with it (other than stock). I want to speed my whole system up, w/ JL1 and custom kernel, any suggestions?

Could I do just the jl1 modem without having to upgrade to 2.2? I am waiting on an official 2.2 release.

Out of all the 2.2 modems, JK6 is deffinately the best. I used ODIN to install JL1, it is horrible. Jk6 I had the best battery life, and the STRONGEST 3G signal. Since flashing JL6 I'm constantly on edge again. Going back to Jk6!

YIKES, I went to odin the Jk6 modem back, because I didn't like JL1, and ODIN said FAIL, and I got the phone to computer icon.

Luckily I was able to get into download mode again and put JFD stock back on.

Wonder why odin did that!

All the modems on this page and any linked to from here are for the US Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959.
IF that is not your phone, DO NOT FLASH.

These are for Samsung based ROMS
Here are the modems both CWM flashable and ODIN flashable.
have fun, I have tested them, and they work!

Here's an interesting read for people who want to know which modem is better.
    http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=959088

    Modem Versioning:
Modems increase in major release by incrementing the alpha, and minor release by incrementing the numeric.

So, JI6 is more recent (and presumably better) than JI2.

    ICS/MIUI/CM7.1 versions available here:

Please forgive the newbie quality of the question, but I AM learning

Can one explain how we benefit from adding a new modem to our vibrant?

Im old school. I think of a modem as hardware. Obviously, thats not the case here.

So without having to take to much of your time, could you just give the cliffnotes of a modem as far as this thread is concerned?

    Thanks tons!

    Mac

well the modem controls voice and data connections.
so a good modem would give you a steady internet connection, a better signal, and can help improve battery life.

Just because a modem is newer doesn't necessarily mean it's better.
    :D
