Been running the base KF1 with DG's insecure kernel now for about 13 hours and it is very stable for me. The only thing I haven't really tested is GPS performance but otherwise this is the smoothest stock rom by far. I had one FC with Google Voice that I restored with TiBu when trying to switch my Voice Mail Carrier to it but the second time worked fine. Otherwise no issues and I did a bulk restore of 100+ user apps from an i9000 Gb rom. I've run most of the i9000 based 2.3 roms and this stock so far has been the most stable and consistently smooth for me. I haven't bothered benchmarking anything yet and I bet Continuum with Talon 2.2 OC'd to 1.2GHz would beat this but as a daily driver rom this stock KF1 has been great so far. Way less features than all those awesome i9000 roms for sure, but that is what DG will bring to the table with Cog I am sure :)

Very good to hear, especially Tibu! Thanks. Were you able to restore mms through Tibu?

I have only had decent GPS with Jv6 modem on my 1007, but Jv6 has terrible call quality. How is reception and call quality on KF1?

I have never tried restoring mms through TiBu. Months ago I was burned restoring system stuff so I have a strict user apps only restore rule now.

Call clarity and volume have both been excellent on KF1 for me so far. I made about half a dozen calls this morning and it is nice not having the screen go black because of the proximity sensor bug that I had through all i9000 GB roms so far. Also the modem seems to be switching to 850MHz correctly.

Wow Dg, this rom is so smooth and fast.
I have noticed that my phone randomly switches lock screens from Glass to puzzle on this rom.

I'm aware there are no additional lock screens with this rom. Which lockscreen comes default with Cog5?

How did you install? Just installed a CWM3 based kernel like talon using ODIN and then flashed ROM in CWM, or did you do something more?

Cezar was kind enough to provide me with an Odin 1-click package with just the new i897 bootloaders. While on Continuum v6, I simply pressed "start" after going to download mode. Flashed bootloaders, no change in kernel, no change in modem, no change in ROM. It was bootloaders only.

netflix

Has anyone been able to get netflix to run? Mine won't run. I'm using the latest one, which was working on S7

So you can install bootloaders with JVP rom already installed, is there a way to do the other way? Install JVP rom with these bootloaders already installed?

That would be more helpful as then once these bootloaders are flashed we can just flash non bootloader packages to move b/w ROMS.

It's not that they 'change'. The lock screen is the glass lock scren, but when you get a message or a missed call, it becomes a mix of glass and puzzle. If you unlock with the glass lock screen you will get to the regular home screen, if you unlock with the puzzle you will get to the call log or the message screen.

If it's running on the bootloaders i'm sure you could flash JVP just fine while already on the i897 bootloaders.

I may have missed this somewhere, but if for some reason we need to go back to stock 2.1 (using Odin 1 click) after installing this, will it be safe?

Instillation / Flash Instructions for Cognition 5 v2

I had a few issues while flashing Cognition 5 v2, but I figured them out, so here is my foolproof flash / instillation method:

    1. Fully charge phone
    2. Remove SIM card and memory card from phone
    3. Place phone in download mode (I used the USB jig)
    4. Start “Odin 2.1”
    5. Connect phone to computer (using USB)
    6. Click “Start” in “Odin 2.1” to revert the phone to Android 2.1 (stock)
    7. Disconnect phone from computer (When process is complete)
    8. Place phone in USB debugging mode
    9. Connect phone to computer
    10. Click “Master Clear” in “Odin 2.1” to clear the phones memory
    11. Disconnect phone from computer (When process is complete)
    12. Place phone in download mode
    13. Start “Odin 2.3”
    14. Connect phone to computer
    15. Click “Start” in “Odin 2.3” to update the phone to Android 2.3
    16. Disconnect phone from computer (When process is complete)
    17. Connect phone to computer and enter mass storage mode
    18. Copy “Cognition 5 v2.zip” to phone, stop mass storage mode, and disconnect phone from computer
    19. Place phone in download mode
    20. Run “Odin Loader,” load “Cognition 5 v2 initial kernel” to PDA slot, and uncheck “automatically reboot”
    21. Connect phone to computer
    22. Click “Start” in “Odin Loader”
    23. Disconnect phone from computer (When process is complete)
    24. Remove and replace battery in phone
    25. Enter recovery mode (click and hold volume up, volume down, and power buttons)
    26. Navigate in Clockworkmod Recovery using up and down volume key to move, home button to select, and power button to go back
    27. Select “wipe storage” and allow to complete
    28. Select “wipe cache” and allow to complete
    29. Select “install zip from SD card” and navigate to “Cognition 5 v2.zip” and allow to complete
    30. Select “shut off phone”
    31. Remove battery, install SIM card and memory card, and replace battery
    32. Start the phone
    33. Enjoy!

Sorry about the ridiculous number of repetitive and assumed steps, but I was trying to make it as foolproof as possible.

Here is the link for a .zip file with all of the files mentioned in my instructions: (http)://dl.dropbox.com/u/13224352/Cognition%20Instructions.zip
