Default eMMC chip

I just got my phone back from repair and it has now got a new motherboard and I guess eMMC chip. I would downgrade and root my phone but there is one thing holding me back. I have been reading up on many htc phone owners who have had their emmc chip fried by them pulling out their battery because their phone has frozen or because their battery has fallen out of their phone.

I think it's a common problem for the incredible s from looking at what the htc person said http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...4&postcount=23

I know it can be fixed by htc but not If you are S-off and as far as I can tell if you are s-off and your emmc chip dies their is no way for you to s-on your phone again.

I was s-off before the repair and I pulled out the battery about 10 times and I never had a problem. Some people seem to think that only some chips are affected as they are a bad batch. If so how can you test your chip ( by pulling the battery) and have anyone already had this problem?

Maybe I'm worrying too much but has anyone thought about it?

It's not really necessary to pull the battery, the button combination for resetting your phone is just press and hold all three buttons. You can still enter hboot from this reset method. Hope this puts your mind at ease somewhat.
Phone: Incredible S s-off
Hboot: Revolutionary
Recovery: 4EXT touch
Kernel: Redux
Radio: 3831.18.00.28_M

Yeah thanks I didn't know about that all button pressing method which I will use in the future. I think maybe the desire s is more vulnerable to it than the incredible s going by the number of threads on their forum.

I must have been lucky for mine to be ok as I pulled out the battery loads when s-off

It looks like I have the bad emmc chip i found out by downloading terminal emulator from the market and typing cat /sys/class/block/mmcblk0/device/name

It comes back with m4g2de which I found out is a Samsung one that bricks after some time.

I'm not sure if I had that before. Could some other people check thiers to see if they have the same one?

So the sen04g is the good chip and the m4g2de is the bad chip

I know the desire s is really badly effected by the emmc chip going dead but after doing some research the sensation also has this bad chip and according to some people is not affected by it so maybe the incredible s is also not affected.
