Default [Q][USA][GSM] Google Wallet concerns when unlocking bootloader/switching ROMs

HI all,
I'm ready to unlock the bootloader and mod this puppy. (USA/GSM) I want to be sure I'm not going to screw anything up due to Google Wallet being on this phone. I had no issues flashing anything on my Nexus S because Google Wallet was not present on there. I'm hearing rumblings on another thread of erasing Google Wallet's info on the NFC chip before flashing anything. Can someone confirm/deny this? Do I have to worry about anything else besides this? I already have my $10 on my Google Prepaid Card and I don't want to lose that either. I figured it's better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks!
Please, call me BW.

Well, I too was afraid given all the horror stories I read on the net. This is my first nexus phone and the first time I've used wallet. Here's some info you might find useful:

When enabling root on the stock rom, you get a msg in wallet saying this device is not compatible at the top. According to others here on xda, wallet will still work with this msg. To get it to go away, you have to remove su and the superuser.apk files.

I made a cwm backup of the stick rom, wiped data, flashed cm9 to check it out (without installing wallet), then immediately restored my backup of stock. When launching wallet from my restored backup, I had to set up wallet again like the first time I set it up, but it worked fine. I didn't get an extra $10 though

I'm currently on cm9. I took the advice of others I found through research to delete wallet info from within the app before I flashed another rom. So.. before I made my cwm backup, I went into the wallet app and removed my data. When installing wallet from the market on cm9, I just had to create my account again. But it all worked.

Sorry if this is a long reply, but I was looking for this info yesterday and had to make a few guesses on what to do. Hopefully this will help others who won't know what to expect.

Hi DeezNotes,
Thanks for being so kind. I found this article last night after I posted this thread from PocketNow:
http://pocketnow.com/android/secure-...-google-wallet

According to this topic though, it may be a software issue and not hardware based...:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1365360

...although I'm not gonna risk it.

So before flashing a new ROM I MUST clear data within the app itself (not though Root Explorer/clearing app data in Android's Application menus) to clear out the Secure Element within the NFC chip in the phone. Easy enough.

Do I need to clear the Google Wallet info every time I flash a ROM, even if it's the same ROM (e.g., flashing Cyanogenmod nightly ROMS) or is this only for major ROM changes? (e.g., stock to Cyanogenmod, Cyanogenmod to MIUI, etc.)

I'm not sure if there is any merit to the "clear prior to flashing" rumor.
It may be completely true. I don't know.

All I do know, is I've only remembered to do that I think once...
And this is after probably 60 rom flashes.
I've yet to have a problem.

All the secure element issues I read were from a while ago. At this point I'm thinking the issue may have been resolves but I don't wanna take that chance.

I just flashed a new CM9 nightly over the previous days CM9 without clearing any data and its all good.
