In these days, we don't need a PC to root and flash a custom recovery anymore usign a PC. If you root using TowelRoot
, then you don't need to unlock the bootloader. Also you can use [ROOT] Rashr - Flash Tool
, you can flash a custom recovery from it.
But I suggest that you unlock the bootloader because as far as I know, you need it unlocked to flash stock factory image (return to stock ROM, kernel, recovery, etc).
So unlock the bootloader first when you are on stock (everything on the device including photos, music, personal files , will be deleted) and Root using TowelRoot, flash TWRP recovery using Rashr and when you go back to stock, after you flash the stock factory image, all you need to do is lock the bootloader using a PC (just if you need to take the device for warranty)
Leave it locked, root using TowelRoot, flash TWRP recovery using Rashr and when you want to go back to stock, you can then unlock the bootloader (everything on the device will be deleted) , flash the factory image using the PC and then lock the bootloader (just if you need to take the device for warranty)
