Question [Q] Yep, A newbie! Need some serious direction.

Ok, Now i've had a mogul for the past 4-5 years, didn't wanna spend more money on a phone that will be old hat in a few months. anyhow, i gave in and now i've got an epic on it's way, today.

I want to get the most from my phone and it's battery life, I also want to use my phone as my mp3 player. so can someone direct me to the best step by step directions on how to do everything. I d/l'd this link
firon.net/xda/one.click.root.exploitv2.5.5 ( ) zip &
32-bit drivers: firon.net/xda/Samsung_Mobile_...00_Epic_4G ( ) zip . . but not to sure what to do from here.

Maybe someone can direct me to the easiest steps to follow as i'm really clueless on what to do and what i'm looking for. any help would be great and thanks in advance!

I'll let someone who knows more about what you need answer, but I just wanted to comment on the Mogul. That was my first "pda phone". I had 2 other windows based pda's, so it was a natural fit. I really liked that phone, and it worked well. I had wi-fi issues with it, so Sprint gave me a Touch Pro. I liked that phone as well. I had some other issue with it and Sprint replaced it with another Touch Pro. The tech said my phone was the first he's seen that the user actually uses it to its fullest potential. I like to get the max I can out of the phone. I had Android on the Touch Pro, but didn't use it for day-to-day things because it ate the battery. I decided to get the Epic because I didn't want to wait for Windows Phone 7, and I didn't like the direction MS was going with it, so Android was the obvious choice (iPhone wasn't even in the running).

I'm glad you joined the Android ranks. What are your impressions of the Epic/Android coming from the Mogul?

It depends on what you want to do with your phone as far as staying on eclair or updating to the froyo leak. If you want to stay on eclair then I would root it with the one click root plus cwm. Then you can install a custom rom/kernel to help with battery life. If you want the froyo leak then I would root it with the one click with cwm version 3. That cwm version will change your filesystem over to ext4. Then you can flash a froyo rom since most are compatable with ext4. The only thing is there are no custom kernels for froyo since we don't have the source code yet. Tell me what way you want to go and I'll help you out.

I've played with a few friends phones, but they were not rooted, and they always kept their power cords with them. I hated that. but i like the keyboard, the screen resolution, i honestly haven't touched any apps yet to date. I am very vanilla when it comes to learning the phone and the whole android process. I have read different forums/blogs and they all direct me back to here for the best help. so I'm here. The biggest thing I really want to do is use the phone as my mp3 player and take advantage of having a very simple os and get the most out of my battery. I do use the inet on my mogul with skyfire but it just doesn't work anymore. I will need to use my calender, fb, things like that, i do like the neat icons that i've seen on different pages. i also was told they even have apps to design your own ringtones with music on ur phone. that's really cool too.. I really feel like a dinosaur with this stuff..

monoprice.com

Only site you should ever think of when it comes to cables.

cdma phones don't have sim cards. And it doesn't have very much internal memory either, so are you sure you didn't put it on your sdcard like you intended?
