Default Oospe, i bricked it again.

Today I got my replacement captivate from AT&T. First thing i did after pulling it out was test my jig. First time, straight to download mode. Tested it 3 more times. Straight to download mode.

Tried my old phone again, straight to Phone ..!.. PC.

Ok, guess my old phone is bricked. On to flashing new phone.

Made sure to not use the same computer/cable as before.

I used my netbook this time, same computer/cable/odin as my first successful flash.

Odin one click to stock (shouldn't really need that, right.. already stock): Success.

Flash Bootloaders: ... FAIL!!!! SAME THING AS BEFORE.

Try my jig on new phone... FAIL: Phone ..!.. PC

I bricked another!

Have the boot-loader packages changed recently? something must be funky. The instructions are not that hard to follow. I really don't know what I coudl be doing wrong. But now i have 2 bricked phones (one i have to send back to AT&T. How can i have a working captivate? JTAG? Where can i find JTAG service?

I've never had an issue with boot loaders, but I have never used that version of oden. Dunno if it makes a difference but I always use oden3 v1.3. 1.3 doesn't even have that boot loader field.

As far as the bricked phone goes, I did soft brick mine like that once due to plugging in the phone before loading oden. After my phone would only get to the phone/! sign, the jig I made out of old resistors I took off old circuit boards no longer worked. (tested to work before it bricked)

I had to go to radio shack and get the 3 100k resisters and even then tape wasn't enough to keep the resistance while holding the jig. I had to use heat shrink shields (or probably just more tape lol). Worked every time after that.

Oh, and after I reflashed, my crappy jig worked again...not sure if it's more picky when soft bricked or if it was just a fluke, haven't bricked it since so I haven't tested it lol.

The important thing is to remove the battery and any cards re-insert the battery DON'T touch ANY buttons then insert the jig.

I'm not sure if i mentioned...

First flash: Odin 1.8.1 (WORKED)
Second Flash: Odin 1.3 - on another computer (BRICKED)
Third Flash: Odin 1.8.1 (BRICKED)

So i'm not really sure if it has anything to do with odin version.

I'll try insolating the jig even more. I tested it (while holding it) with a volt meter and got 301k but who knows. I'll try anything at this point.

I've had the exact same error while using ODIN. My phone is now hard bricked. Can anyone outline any possible steps to recover from this outcome? Do I need to warranty my phone? Is that even an option?

by 'hard bricked' are you getting the phone ..!.. pc screen like me or black screen? I _think_ you can probably warranty service it. I doubt there's any way att will know what you did to it. I have one phone that i'm sending back to AT&T but i havn't sent it in yet so idk if they will know or not.

Also mobiletechvideos.com does jtag service for $50. I'm doing that with my other one.

Well, JTAG only restores the PBL and SBL... After proper restoration, if the phone boots up, they will know exactly what you did... Luckily most phones brick when using Odin3 one-click.
I ignore PMs with questions that could be answered by searching. If you PM me, I probly won't respond.

Not true Adam... . JTAG can restore only PBL and SBL if that's what I want. However, I made a full backup of an i897 while I had it hooked up to the machine which allows me to also write that backup to any other i897 NAND if needed. So instead of only writing the PBL and SBL blocks of the NAND I can literally overwrite every block of the entire NAND chip.

I've already tested backup and restore JTAG session on other models with full success.
