After you typed this, do you get the notification by superuser.apk on your device?

Ok. Then I know what to do. Thank you very much. I will provide a new release soon that also deletes the /system/bin/su file.

Ok. Version 1.2 is ready. It will remove su from /system/bin before rooting. Just click "root" again.

Let me know if this works for you.

Default 3.1 OTA root?

So has anyone tested this yet on the OTA 3.1 update? It sounds like its beginning to roll out. I'm on unrooted stock 3.0.1 and I havn't received the OTA yet. I don't want to rule out rooting, so when the update comes, I don't know if I can apply it and still be able to root if I want.

That was an awesome response! It was fixed by the time I got back home to check my email.

mpkrcl: yes its a quick root in about 30 seconds tops. If you have never rooted, you should not have the issues that I had by not unrooting before running to OTA update. My advice - update, root, enjoy... and don't break it... your warranty will be voided ;0)

This tool installs su and superuser.apk for stock HC 3.1

As the old root method does not work anymore I created this new tool.

How to root
1. Goto Settings->Applications and enable "Unkown sources"
2. Download the attached APK file
3. Copy the file to your Iconia
4. Install the APK & start the tool
5. Click "root"
6. Enjoy :)

How to unroot
1. Start the tool & click "unroot"

NOTE
- This was tested only with Acer_A500_3.019.04_COM_GEN1 but will probably work with any other version.
- By clicking root, you agree that you do this at your own risk. The tool will uninstall any previous installed superuser.apk.

Thanks
@ChainsDD for superuser.apk and su
@Acer for this buggy tool

Changelog

1.2.0:
- Remove su from /system/bin and /system/xbin before rooting. This should fix the issues when someone installed the 3.1 OTA without unrooting the device before.

1.1.0:
- Add support for HC3.0

1.0.0:
- Initial version

Tested 1.2.0 works fine with CWM made 3.1 update br dr1337. just be sure to allow Unknown apps and enable usb debuging.

Thanks for this great rooting app. You devs are great.

Hello - installed new 3.1 using cwm on rooted device, cwm left unit rooted. saw this thread and read complete. downloaded your 1.2 apk. seemed to work ok, have titanium backup and drive mount and busybox installer - went to reroot device and I can obtain root with busy box and drive mount - but not titanium backup -- unistalled and reinstalled 1.2 apk - no change - shut unit down and repowered - no change. What am i missing??
