Hey guys, I am also having the "error: device not found" problem. Tried every method to fix it mentioned in this thread and still no luck. Any suggestions?
First day Andriod user, by the way. Long time iPhone/iPad user!

Worked for me on brand new infuse 4g. have not tried the unlock as I do not need it for the time being. I used your scripts on OSX 10.7 (Lion, latest version) and I did need to run the root.sh shell script using sudo (sudo ./root.sh) to get it to work properly.

Thanks!

Windows XP Pro "error: device not found".
Installed the Kies and it does not recognise the Infuse 4G!
So the problem is apparetly the wrong driver.

Did you try running it with sudo?

"sudo ./root.sh"

It will ask for your account password in order to become the "super user". Worked for me that way.

Windows 7 installed ATT_SGH-i997_Infuse4G_USB_Drivers_5_2_0_2 from the Samsung site - still no go.
"error: device not found".

Got it - unistalled everything (all drivers noted in this thread including the kies).
Reinstalled the OEM ATT_SGH-i997_Infuse4G_USB_Drivers_5_2_0_2 from the Samsung site.
And everything worked like charm.

For those of you who are having the device not found error with the empty unlock code, you need to first UNINSTALL the existing generic samsung drivers (from the generic Kies software installation) inside Add/Remove Programs of control panel. Then go to Samsung website and download the updated driver provided below. After download, run setup to install the new driver. Remember to unplug phone while uninstalling the old driver.

Here is the link to samsung driver for the Infuse 4G. Click on Software (next to Manuals)

Default Unlock Code is Huge!

So when I take a look at the unlock code, its like a string of 50+ numbers, and the unlock code should either be 8 or 16. What part of this huge string of numbers do I enter into the phone? If I try various ones, I will eventually lock my phone permanently.
