Default [Q] Dead Epic, very stubborn... can someone help?

Ok,

For starters, I am a bit new to the ROM/Flashing gig, so it might come as no surprise that I have somehow managed to foul up my phone in the process. I was attempting to flash a new ROM to the Epic and, while using Odin, the process failed. Now, when I go to power the phone on, it gives me an image of a phone connected to a computer by a dotted line with a caution symbol in between. The phone will still boot into Download mode, but it will not communicate with Odin anymore, so I am unable to re-flash the phone. Odin detects the phone and begins the process but stalls out at Initialization. The longest I have left it there was for two hours after trying all of the different mentioned intervals in other threads.

My question: Is there anything else I can do or do I just need to take my phone to Sprint and subject myself to their mercy?

Thanks guys! I ended up using a non-stock cable (One from an Amazon Kindle, actually), as suggested, with Odin and it was back before I could question whether it was working or not. You guys are amazing, I really can't thank you enough!

Take the battery out then try it. Also take out the battery and remove the sd card. one of those 2 methods should work

I had the same issue last month.

Just change your Data Cable.
The stock data cable is of no good.

Use original BlackBerry Micro USB data cable... my phone was immediately detected by the computer when I used BlackBerry Micro USB data cable.

You don't need to take out the sd card but do remove the battery and put it back in and get a non-samsung usb cable. You're phone's not bricked so don't worry. Also, if you're doing this on a laptop try a desktop computer because there have been issues with it not working on laptops. For the PDA file, does it have '. md5' at the end of it?
