I, as do some other loyals, spend a great deal of time on the forums answering a number of questions. So I figured it was time to make a FAQ to slow down some of the pain in having to search through the whole forum for answers. Hope this helps everybody out. Q: What is rooting, and should I root my phone?
A: Rooting is a process in which you use a custom rom to gain admin control over your Droid Charge. This gives you complete read/write access should you or an application need it over the file system.
Q: Will rooting my phone or making modifications to the system void my warranty?
A: Yes. Anytime you change the default system build you violate the warranty agreement.
Q: Can I root my new Droid Charge and how hard is it?
A: YES. The difficulty level to rooting a DC is about a 1, maybe 2 for a brand new Samsung User. You can Refer

Q: How do I know if I am rooted or not?
A: Download a root checker. Or download Terminal Emulator from the Android Market. At the "$" prompt type "su (lowercase letters as linux is case sensitive). It should then ask you for permission to give Terminal Emulator SuperUser rights. Click yes. Then your prompt will change to "#" indicating that you are running as a SuperUser.
Q: Is there a way to boot into recovery without using a special program like Rom Manager?
A: Yes. Boot into Recovery by holding Vol up+home button+power button. When you see the Samsung logo come on, keep holding, it will go away. When the Samsung logo shows up for a secon time, let go and your phone will boot into Recovery.
Q: Is there a way to get better battery life out of my Droid Charge?
A: Yes there is. Refer to this how to.

Q: How can I backup my apps data before flashing so that I do not lose everything?
A: You can download Titanium Backup for Root from the Android Market. Run the batch that allows you to backup all user apps. "NOTE: Be Careful, everytime you run backup, it makes a large backup file on your sdcard. Watch your space"
Q: Do I need to charge my Droid Charge before use.?
A: It is recommended that you drain your power until you get the low battery notification, then completely charge your phone to 100%. Charging your battery while it's around 50% will decrease your batteries charge.
Q: Do I need this Verizon USB cable that came with my Droid Charge?
A: Although it is advised by Samsung to use it, intense testing by many XDA loyals have proven that you can use any micro usb.
Q: I keep hearing people say "USE ADB". What is ADB and where do I get it?
A: ADB (Android Debugg Bridge) Is an interface that runs on your computer to act as interface between your pc and phone. You can download the Android SDK from

Q: I cannot get my Droid Charge to connect to my computer. Where are the drivers that I need for ADB and ODIN?

Q: My Battery last about 5-6 hours, seems like no matter what I do. Is this Normal?
A: NO. You should with solid stable rom, get up to 8 hours with heavy use and 12-15 hours with normal use from you phone. Please not that some apps do use more power to run then others. So battery life will change according to use.
Q: How do I enable the VOODOO Lagfix?
A: In ClockWorkMod (your recovery) scroll to voodoo, and enable lagfix. When you reboot you will hear a nice voice saying "LAGFIX ENABLE" or something to that effect. I wasn't listening sorry.
Q: How do I disable Lagfix?
A: In ClockWorkMod (your recovery) scroll to voodoo, and disable lagfix. Reboot, you will here that nice young lady again. You may additionally need to Create the file "/sdcard/voodoo/disable-lagfix" and reboot.
Q: All apps are not showing up in my Android Market. Can I fix this?
A: Yes. From the home screen of the Market. Click the menu button, and set your content filtering to "Show ALL"
Q: I have HORRIBLE call volume and quality. Is it my phone or just me?
A: This has been noted as a problem on "some" not "all" handsets. Try the method

Q: How well does my GPS work. It can't seem to find me?
A: The aGPS built into this phone is accurate to about 3-5 meters. It will not work indoors as it needs a clear line of site to the satellites, and I have heard of problems in some vehicles if not actually in the window.
Q: What kind of HDMI cable can I use with my Droid Charge?
A: Typically you can pick up a micro HDMI cable from most retailers. Belkin, Rocketfish seem to work the best for all smartphones with HDMI out.

Q: I'm getting an OTA update notification after i've already rooted. Should I accept it?
A: YES. The OTA will update your phone to EE4. Then you can go back and reroot. It is necessary because there are some parts to the phone that are not updated to EE4 by just flashing to the EE4 rom.
Q:After installing a custom rom, my phone will continuously reboot. Did I brick my phone?
A: NO, you are in a bootloop. Reflash the rom again to fix this problem. Same if your phone boots to a triangle with an exclamation point in it.
Q: Can I unroot my phone if i need to turn it in or exchange it?
A: Yes. In the dev section you can find the stock roms for the droid charge. Flash them using your flasher of choice.
Q: My launcher is stuck and I want to change back to Touchwiz, How do I get back to the chooser?
A: Go to settings>applications>manage applications>all tab. Scroll to the launcher you have running. Select it and once inside the app, select defaults. Hit the home button, you will now see your launcher chooser.
Q: Is there a way to stop my phone from automatically starting my sdcard when I plug it into my pc?
A: Settings>Usb Settings>Ask on Connection.
Q: Can I do voice and data at the same time while using my charge?
A: On a 3G network you can only do voice/data at the same time using wifi. On 4G network you can use voice/data simultaneously.
Q: Is there a way to disable 4G so I can save battery?
A: You can go to the market and download LTE Switch. It's a free app. Essentially what it does, is takes you to your data selection screen. From there you go to System Selection. CDMA is your 2G/3G Band and LTE is your 4G band. It is ok in CDMA to leave it on automatic.
