Question CWM 3.x (yellow) vs. 2.5 (red)
  1. Do I understand correctly that if I use CWM 3.x (yellow) I can never go back to the stock DL17?
  2. Can I upgrade to Gingerbread if I stay with CWM 2.5 (red)?

So why use CWM3 at all? Any advantage to CWM3 over CWM2.5?

The difference is support for edify or amend scripting.... But because everyone just uses 2.5, that's not an issue :P so just stick with 2.5
