I unzip the zip file, take off radio.img and put in androidsdk/tools folder, reboot in fastboot and in CMD type: fastboot flash radio radio.img
That's all....

I'm not sure, but If I've a got a good memory, CM7.1 needs RIL files.
And I haven't got another answer for helping you.
Sorry guys

All the ROMs need those files ;)...but:

Quote
Do NOT flash any libhtc_ril.so into an AOSP ROM. We're using a RIL library designed for an AOSP system, flashing any of the Desire S stock ones, which are designed for a Sense ROM, will cause all manner of issues.

By all means, update the radio, but don't use the accompanying libraries or files that come with it.

For me:

Rom: CyanogenMod V7.1.0 stable
Radio: 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20_M - that's suits for me, no battery drain, no signal loss, everything works as it should.
RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0018G (Mar 24 2011) - already in CM - do not change-it.

As I see in your signature you have the same specs, so it's better not to change the radio. Personally used 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 for a week, but I had 6-10% battery drain every night (exchange active sync, data enable). After switching on 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20_M battery drain is 1-2% in the same circumstances. For me only notable difference between the two radios were the drain. Hope it helps.

Thanks heaps for this, I was having the infuriating SMS delay issue being on the 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M version with Android 2.3.3.

Upgrading it to 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20 has solved the problem :)

Hey guys... I'm a Desire owner, but my girlfriend has the Desire S and I recently S-OFF`ed her Hboot (Revolutionary) and flashed MIUI (1.11.11, no need to update to .18 since it doesn't really change much). Point is the ROM is CyanogenMod-based.

I don't really know what Radio she has; it can't be recent, since she has the phone since June.

I saw you reccomended 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20_M, freaksamael (which I believe is the 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20 file from the first page of this topic)... I also saw that people are complaining about battery drain with the new Radio from October, so I definetly won't flash that. I think I will install 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20 on her phone.

Would this radio work on her S-OFF`ed via Revolutionary HBoot (0.98.002)?

She has been complaining about :
-disability to slide-to-answer immediately (volume-key press or patience solves this) : not sure if this is ROM-related. Could the Radio be the guilty one? :/
-Wi-Fi signal going up and down (compared to my Desire, her phone is really lame when it comes to Wi-Fi strenght, or at least capability to hang onto a network)
-volume being simply TOO loud in the earpiece during phonecall (even on volume 1, it's still loud as my Desire at volume 4, lol)

As far as I know, the Radio controls only Wi-Fi, GSM, BT and GPS. But I don't know whether it has anything to do with how the screen responds to touch and to volume output - I'd say that's the kernel's job, right? Am I right or not?

Thank you very much. At least i found the problem. With the newest radio (20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04) i had about 15% battery drain at night. The phone was in flight mode. Yesterday i changed to radio 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20_M and i noticed only a battery drain of 3% with equal conditions.

 Is it possible to backup current RADIO ? If yes, how to do it ? Thx!

Could be possible, via adb and dd (dumpdisk) command. But is no need to dump your radio...because is controlled by ROM via RIL (radio interface layer) and radio.img doesn't keep any settings, so your radio is (and should be) the same as the radio(s) posted here. Only RILs and build.prop entries could be different. Check your current radio version (vol-down + power at boot). You can take-it after (if need it) from this thread :)...post #1

For checking Radio and RILs versions you can use RILInfos_1.1.apk from here http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=10382922&postcount=1 - all credits to zikyHD.

    Code:

     * thermonuclear war, or the end of the world. Please do some research
     * if you have any concerns about flashing a radio before flashing it!
     * YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if you point the
     * finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you. */

    How to Flash:

In order for this to work, the HTC Desire S needs to be S-OFF. Flashing the radio with a corrupt file or interrupting the flash, can brick the device, please proceed with caution.

    1. Download the your choice of radio for the HTC Desire S.
    2. Make sure the filename is PG88IMG.zip exactly or it will not work and copy it to the same folder as adb (the /platform-tools folder within the Android SDK folder).
    3. Connect the HTC Desire S to the computer via USB.
    4. On the computer, open terminal and run the following commands:
      Code:
      adb push PG88IMG.zip /sdcard/PG88IMG.zip
      adb shell md5sum /sdcard/PG88IMG.zip
NOTE: The md5 should match up the provide the original download location. If not, redownload & try again.
      Code:
      adb reboot bootloader
    5. The HTC Desire S will reboot & usually boot into fastboot. Pressing the Power button will put the device into the bootloader.
    6. The bootloader will scan for the radio update. Once it finds the update, select Yes.
    7. Allow the bootloader to finish flashing the updated radio, and reboot the HTC Desire S normally.

Thanks for putting these in one place, and even though there's a warning about bricking phone's, I would like to warn everyone that flashing a radio is very rarely necessary, and should not be done on a whim!!! Not enough is known about recovering from a bad flash on the NVRam (radio), and if this happens you could end up with a very expensive calculator.
