DONATE TO ME
Default Get upgrade pricing without being elgible

I wanted post this , as it has worked twice for me in the past.

When the Dinc came out, I wanted to switch from my BB storm to the dinc but I did not have an upgrade available to me. I called telesales and just said i wanted to upgrade bla bla (I let them figure out that I was not eligible for the upgrade). When he finally realized that I would not get upgrade pricing (about the middle of the sale) he said I would have to pay full retail for the phone.

I calmly asked him if there was a way I could get an upgrade, and after placing me on hold a few times, he finally said "no". From here, I started a conversation with him on ways I could get an upgrade, making sure to ask his opinion. After a few seconds of this, i acted like I had a brainstorm idea.

me - If I was a new customer I could get the new activation price correct

him - yes

me - So if I canceled service, the new customer pricing plus the early termination fee would be less than the full cost of the phone

him - I suppose so, yes

me - Okay, lets do that then, because i really hate my Storm and I want the dinc

him - can you hold a min for me

me - sure (wait 5 min)

him - sir, it looks like i will be able to get you that u that upgrade pricing afterall

me - really! Thats good news

The next day I had a Dinc in the mail. I also did this when I switched from the Dinc to the Samsung Charge and it worked.

The key i think is to NOT make it obvious this was the intent of your call, and make it seem like a genuine option. Dont be angry, dont be like "FINE ILL JUST CANCEL THEN!!!!!"

If they send call your bluff, then just change your mind at the last second "on second thought, I should check with my wife before I just cancel our service, Can I have your extension so I can call back after I talk to her"

the LAST thing any sales rep wants during their day is a service cancellation. They have metrics on signed up vs cancellations, and it is their job to keep you at almost any cost.

Hope this helps some of you!

I tried something like that once, but the salesman's response was something like "you COULD do that', but then you have to pay the early termination fee." Add that to the 2-year contract price of the phone and it would have been abour the same as paying full price.
Guess I shouldn't have given up after that!

I have heard from several people that store managers can give you the upgrade if they really want to make the sale. Of course, you have to be in the store for that.

Hang up and call again. The guy I talked to gave me a completely different runaround, he said if I was 13 months into my current contract then I could get an early upgrade.

Same thing happened when I bought my droid incredible off of eBay. First person who talked to me said I couldn't active it, so I hung up. Called again, next person didn't even question it, he just activated it and bam it worked.
Current phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 (Verizon) (sexy beast)
Retired phones: HTC Droid Incredible ,Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX

ive been trying this approach a few times a day since i heard wed that we could order early, but no dice. one lady tried really hard for me, she looked on the web and saw people were getting it early after i told her about, she was then on a mission to get one for me but finally said that it had been totally turned off and she couldn't find a work around.

oh well, tomorrow is the day!!

If you use this method you would lose your phone number right?

you don't actually cancel/re-sign... it's just b.s.'ing them into giving you upgrade price.
