For those who cant install anything from the amazon market to begin with, download the latest Root Explorer apk and load it into the root of your kindles memory through Windows Explorer. Then in the kindles web browser, type...
file:///mnt/sdcard/filename.apk
filename.apk being the name of your Root Explorer apk. This will work to install any apk you want, but once you have Root Explorer installed, its easier done through there.
Follow the instructions from the linked thread above to get a working android market.

You uninstalled the old market, reboot, and then reinstalled the new one after moving it to the /apps folder and giving it permissions?

yes. i uninstalled using titanium backup, and i rebooted between each step.

i got it working now after a factory reset.
