I'm in the same camp. I recently swapped my HTC for the Electrify due to the amazing reviews Electrify received - unfortunately I ended up with 2.3.5 pre-installed.
So far no one has been able to unlock the bootloader on 2.3.5 pre-installs. Can't even SBF back to 2.3.4, unlock, pop to 2.3.5. From what I'm learning about Motorola I'm thinking about begging my local provider to give my HTC back.
One thing you can do is kill all the newly released 2.3.5 motoBloat. I just got around to freezing it all last night and noticed quite an improvement in my performance. I've heard talk about potential class action lawsuits vs. Moto but there is no conclusive evidence thus far that they are actually harvesting personal information. Gotta wonder what they're up to tho... Why prevent a usergroup, that is excited about the phone, from doing what they want with the product. All they end up doing is alienating an active & vocal customer base.
