Im on build 15 stock kernal and KK4 modem.
The GPS, for me is fantastic. I get lock within 30ft in about 5-7 seconds. I never use it inside so I can't comment on that
Take a look at a different modem, it could help

Yes, as long as you get the CM/MIUI/ICS modem, JL3 will work perfectly. I used it for a long time without issue, but I recently switched to KP1 since it seems to be even better.

"Flashing swype?" Not sure what you are flashing, I use the Swype beta from www.swype.com and it works perfectly. I don't think you will have much luck with any "flashable" version that has been extracted from another ROM.

It won't affect your GPS, but get rid of the KK4 modem unless you never talk to anyone on the phone.

Kangi26, can you edit the OP and put big bold red letters telling people not to use i897 modems with CM9?

I have not had good use at all. I am on build 13 and it has been abysmal. I am not sure if I want to switch modems because the phone service has been fantastic. Any ideas on what to do? I posted earlier about it.

Also on a side note. Do your pictures show up clear on google music or the favorite contacts? My pictures look distorted and not clear but any picture I open in the gallery are perfect.

Captivate modems require the audience chip which i9000 ROMs are not optimized to use. Without this optimization it can distort how you sound to others when making phone calls. i9000 ROMs are optimized for faster data uploads than i897 ROMs.

Have you tried exiting car mode via the pulldown menu?
Thanks for the suggestion.. I just double checked and can confirm that on build 15, I can not get the phone to make any sound when docked in the windshield mount. Even disabling car mode did nothing. It seems there is no way to prevent it from redirecting to the dock's audio jack. This means I must unplug the phone in order to hear the GPS

There is a link in the OP for modems, ONLY USE CM7/Miui/ICS. Oxy has also created a user feedback map which shows what modems work well in specific areas
Copy it to your SD, install thru CWM
