Lightbulb Changing the DPI: Problems you noticed and how you have dealt with them

I've been running my GS2 at 220 DPI lately and am really loving the "extra space" it affords- especially in the amount of text the Kindle app can display now. The main issue I have noticed however is that installing apps from the market requires jumping through several hoops- namely: changing DPI back to 240, rebooting, restoring market from a backup.

Just though it could be good to start a thread as a hub for DPI issues on this phone and and also to see if there is some obvious solution I have missed.

Running ICScrewd 2.1 and Siyah 2.6.9.

Edit: Experimenting with LCD Density Modder Pro right now (2.99). Looks like it fixed the market....

This modded Market version helps when changing LCD densities.

There is still little hassle involved, but not as much as restoring market from backup.

1. Install this modded market (as in, move it t0 /system/app as vending.apk and rename the old vending.apk to something like vending.apkbak)
2. Reboot
3. Go to settings -> applications and clear data in Market app.

Catch: That clear data step has to be repeated after EVERY reboot.

To get around market error with different DPI all you have to do is keep an app handy for switching back to the default 240, then go into "manage apps", find market and clear data. No need to reboot or restore a backup of the market. I use a LCD Density setting of 185 and have for over a year.. that's the only issue I've seen is the market..that and stock Sammy apps some don't resize to fit the screen.

Touchwiz apps can be adjusted for the changed dpi. I run at 180-190 normally. If you have a dialer you want adjusted for multidpi let me know I'll adjust it and upload to my multidpi thread in the themes forum.

Haven't had too much time but I'm also working on resizing the calculator, calendar and other touchwiz apps for the changed dpi.

There's also a patched market going around that I've used that fixes the "this app is not compatible with this device." cant remember where I found it though.

Good stuff nh5! Yep calculator and calendar were the other ones. Good to know though and I may contact you in the future

The modded market is linked a few posts up I believe.

Default Battery consumption

As anyone noticed an high increase in battery usage when running on lower DPI?

I'm at 192 dpi and the battery life go down much faster.

Custom DPI should not affect battery whatsoever. I have used 185 for freaking ever now.. no increased battery drain. ICS has amazing battery life.
