Default [Q] Why does my Nook charging cable have a red light when not plugged into tablet?

Hello so I had never unplugged my Nook charging cable from the charger since purchasing since I used another cable to hook to computer but I had to when repartitioning.

Anyways now when the Nook is unplugged from the cable the light on it is red whereas before there was no light illuminated when nothing was plugged in. It still charges the tablet normal being orange while charging and green when fully charged.

Is this normal?

I saw a post someplace from a B&N employee saying that shouldn't happen and they replaced the cord under warranty where they worked.
