HTC One smartphones taken 12,000 feet in the sky, take photos of models
Quote:

Aaah, the things that companies do only to get noticed! While some tout how fast their smartphones are at doing certain things and others mail parcels around the world, HTC has taken off to higher heights... literally.

To celebrate the launch of its One series of Android smartphones, HTC has staged "the world's first free fall fashion shoot". Filmed in the skies over Arizona, it featured model and champion skydiver Roberta Mancino and Nick Jojola - an amateur photographer and HTC fan who was asked to capture the event using an HTC One smartphone.

It took 35 free-fall leaps and a total crew of 9 skydivers including lighting experts, mid-air make-up artists, and smoke machine carrying divers. LA Times stylist Hayley Atkin was the one responsible for outfitting Roberta, and for that task he chose a design by Martin Izquierdo, who has worked on numerous Hollywood costumes including the latest Spiderman outfit. What Roberta was dressed in was a "futuristic mirrored bodysuit" made out of 75 pieces of plexi glass and a jacket with feathers that were hand sewn in order to withstand the 126mph free-fall.

Besides trying to grab the audience's attention, the goal of this marketing stunt is to show off the photo and video taking capabilities of the HTC One smartphones regardless of the conditions. And sure enough, with the help of the HTC ImageChip, smartphones from the One series need only 0.7 seconds to boot and 0.2 seconds to lock the focus in place. Also, the back-illuminated sensor and f/2.0 aperture should make a difference when lighting conditions are not optimal.

What do you think of this HTC marketing campaign? Would it make people want to grab a HTC One handset or would it be a dud? Tell us what you think in the comments below.

Nope it says the One X is the better option:

"Overall, whether the One X or the iPhone 4S has a better camera boils down to individual preferences. The One X delivers sharper images at the expense of some noise, while the iPhone 4S delivers better colors and noise control.

Personally, the fast shutter speed and sharper images of the One X feel like the better option."

well we do learn something, final retail unit with final firmware behaving as it supposed to do, compared to month early prototype being poked by hundreds of journalists , eeee should learn to worry less

thanks for all your posts eeee, your are on fire today! i'm literally loosing all patience!

This device is seriously the most desired thing right now, it has the Transformer Prime effect, mystical and highly desired, we need some sales metrics soon

Is Qualcomm cheating in Vellamo?
Quote:

The scores look quite good for Qualcomm, but since we got hold of an Asus Transformer Prime we decided to dig a bid deeper. Both Nvidia and Qualcomm do not want to get involved in official fight but we were quite surprised with what we learned. We also talked to some engineers that want to remain unnamed and we came up with a few interesting things.

Since we have tested this phone you can easily tell that this benchmark doesn't really use two or four cores properly. In this test S4 scores 4920 where the Tegra 3 based Transformer Prime scores 3954 and Tegra 2 scores 2154 on a custom ROM Optimus 2X.

The second test is the Vellamo benchmark was a bit more disturbing as once you run it you see Qualcomm ads all over it. This didn't give us much confidence and it turns out that Qualcomm has a lot of power over this particular benchmark.

Quote:

Our engineering friends are telling us that Velamo disables some hardware acceleration in compositing Deap Sea Canvas and See the sun canvas subtest. Honeycomb and ICS support hardware acceleration by default and disabling this probably hurt the general score. One can argue that it hurts S4 scores as well, but it definitely hurts Tegra 3 more. The benchmark isn't flushing commands in the Pixel Blender subtest and there is a suspicion that this might help Qualcomm S4 to gain a better score.

The most important issue is the fact that it is unclear how Vellamo scores sub test scores. In Third party benchmarks such as Sun Spider and Google V8 it turns out that Vellamo penalizes high Google V8 scores and if your score gets too high in V8, the general score gets lower. There are a lot of benchmarks out there and some of the ones that like more cores include Antutu, CF benchmark and Moonbat.

Quote:

Phones should be about the overall user experience, but how can you benchmark experience? It's a very subjective category and can hardly be expressed with cold numbers and statistics. We are not talking about PC components and the race for more performance, smartphones should be viewed as a complete package, battery life, build quality, UI and design come into play. Sheer performance is just one aspect and for many users it is still not the deciding factor and we believe it should not be.

all the thanks to arthasz
