There's an app called "AOSP Tweaker" which is linked from the OP that lets you change back and forth between tablet and phone modes. I just tried it and it's working for me. Thanks emptynick
Here's a quote from the OP as it stands now...

I imagine the location of this app may change in the future so check the OP to be sure.

So far as I've heard there isn't a way to change the notification and ringer volumes independently. Supposedly "they" changed something in Android 4, at least that's what some app in Play said in the description. Here's what I did as a workaround...
There are tons of apps in the Google Play Store that will let you edit MP3s and whatnot to turn them into ringtones/notification tones. Some will let you adjust the volume as well. Many of them have permissions that I don't agree with though. Here's one that did what I needed and doesn't ask to read my texts in the process...
Find your notification tone (or ringtone, whatever) in that app, click the lil' green down-arrow button, choose Edit, tap the speaker button, and turn the volume down (or up) with the big slider. Save as a new file (I added the suffix "quieter" to the file name) then go and choose the quieter file in the settings.

Sorry to only offer a tiny bit of help, but I do recall someone talking about that somewhere
on this thread. Try searching some more. Maybe terms like "record call" or "record button" would help...
OK, OK, I found the post to which I was referring...
YMMV, I haven't tried doing whatever that person said to do... I also imagine his post was made before v7 was released, perhaps things have changed? I dunno.
