throw a stock ROM on it... boot it once to make sure all is good. you don't need to flash all the updates. stock rom, stock kernel will do. nothing else would effect the power button not working anyways. that is either hardware or kernel related.
I would go with hardware related Also the button on the back plate could be worn out I have seen em stick to go screwy..

OP have you taken your battery door off and pressed the button with your finger nail or a pencil for the hell of it..

Flashing a stock ROM will unroot your 3D.......lol

Does not matter what you have since it seems to be a hardware issue

Flashing a stock (rooted) rom, is what I was going for.

Removing the back cover and using my nail, works. Putting the cover back on, it starts doing the same thing. The screen turns off, then comes right back on. Seems it is the cover not the physical button.

Thanks to all

Yes it will......flashing any ROM whether stock or custom without superuser/supersu = unrooting your phone.

You can I guess be "unrooted" while running a stock ROM, but you'd still have S-off so you could just flash something else afterwards.

Ya you need a new battery door you will be all set man I would just take it to sprint and say I need a new battery door cover mine is causing my power button to stick and not work.. The button is fine but the one on the door is wore out.

Its from mashing your power button too many times while flashing Roms in recovery! You flash crackhead you! =P Its like rubbing one too many out in one day, after a while it starts to sting, now imagine how your poor phone feels. =[ lollll
