i'm guessing the x and xl's accessories are backward compatible?

They are the same phone except for the SoC. Sizewise they are identical.

Since someone managed to tear the phone down, I would really like to see different color shells for the phone, like instead of the white or black option, i would like to see a red or blue or whatever you want, instead of having to use a case

I'm crossing my fingers that they make a US version of the desktop cradle and the case that works with it....plz HTC

They will and with a recessed camera in the LTE One X, it'll be even better.

It's essentially the same.
According to gsmarena, the One X (international version) is 0.4mm shorter than the One X(L) (Rogers and AT&T version).
Not that it makes much of a deal.
