this phone belongs to sprint usa, and it's unlocked and being used on reliance cdma network in india.
there is nothing official about it ! sprint does not exist in india.

that's the reason i am afraid of experimenting.

basically, i have two reasons to unlock bootloder.
1. root
2. gsm sim unlock

please advise further.

htcdev unlock leaves the sim & radios locked (check the faq on htcdev.com unlock bootloder tool). So to tell you that you will still have your cdma unlocked is questable. I think the best bet would be s-off via another method, but that is currently not possible (I do know a few people that have it & a couple that are working on s-off - no luck yet though). Root should not be an issue.

Can he fastboot flash recovery and then su binary for root?

@ Hamp. I'm not sure if that will work or not as to put a custom recovery on you have to be unlocked.

Nobody knows yet. Might keep track on htc's blog, as that is where they are posting release information on ics

Does anyone have an ICS Rom (without sense) that is being developed? It would be nice to at least be able to play around with it a bit

Wrong phone, mate. He's be looking for one for the Hero S or Evo Design, not so much the old Hero 200.
