Hi there, I've been reading this thread and struggling for the last couple of days. I was following all of the steps and things were going alright, I was a bit confused on some terminology, but it's beginning to seem familiar. Anyways, I tried flashing my first kernel using the SGS kernel flasher which was supposed to be okay if you were already rooted. The screen went horribly black and white and I couldn't see anything. I think I started to hear (linda?) talking and then the phone shut off. I let it sit for about 10 minutes wondering if I had done anything right. When I tried to turn it back on, it just kept cycling so I guess the bootloaders weren't working. Then I flashed the stock everything back onto the phone thru ODIN except I couldn't find the stock froyo, only the GB one... Now my phone works (sorta) except I have no service and I cant figure out how to root it again. Nothing seems to be working.

TL;DR - Was on Froyo, had to restore to GB phone keeps on having the vibrating error (looping?) and I can't figure out how to get it back to froyo or root so that I can flash a custom ROM and start to get things working again.

Thanks for the guide so far though, it's been VERY helpful, and it got my phone unbricked!

SGS Kernel Flasher is for Gingerbread in case you were on Froyo when you used it. If you were originally on Froyo do you know if you ever flashed GB bootloaders or not. I'm sure this guide will tell you how to flash bootloaders. I recommend you using the GB Ext4 Starter Pack in the dev section or the KJ6 Heimdal One-Click to make sure you have GB bootloaders and get your phone back to normal.

If you know you have GB Bootloaders, I recommend the ODIN One-Click Gremlin Remover in the dev section.

Wow, Thank you so much for your quick reply, after some failure, I decided to reflash the base GB using ODIN. I am such a noob! I mixed up two of the files because the screen shot of this guide was using a different version than I was. The phone is now on GB and is working perfectly. So much stress has been relieved.

I want to give you thanks, but I didn't see the button for it.

I hope now I can get a custom ROM to work on my phone!

I wish I could figure it out. I've been trying to figure out how to make any ROM work, by reading thread after thread, post after post, link after link, instructions after instructions. Most of which have one or more places where the instructions aren't specific enough. So you have to do guess work, increasing the chances of bricking. Please don't take this personally I'm just very frustrated. If you want to call me stupid, tell me I'm wasting your time etc., please do. Perhaps I am stupid but I'm just asking that you make it a little more thorough and less haphazard.

Look at the first two links in my signature. They are noob friendly guides. Glad you have been reading. That is all we really ask from noobs on here. Let us know if yoh need more help.
