Mine came with 8. :( refurb. I put in the 16 I used in my old optimimus v. If you want more storage space, put in a bigger card. There's no real downside.

Will the bionic recognize the 32 gb card as 32 GB giving you 64 Gb total storage space?

It will recognize it as 32GB, but the Bionic only has 8GB or 16GB internal, so it's 40-48GB max.
