Or if you don't want to use 4EXT (it's a great recovery) you can flash the kernel and related components from Flash Image GUI app, clear the cache+dalvik, and reboot into the new kernel without extracting anything, hooking up to a computer or going into any recovery. It pulls what it needs from the ROM .zip and flashes everything from the app.

some people will test it for battery drain. RLS 1 should have the best chance because it's the closest to stock but still has beats and oc. My initial tests today still show battery drain, but I'd like to confirm with others that they still see the 2%/hr.

it appears the drain varies between users... some get 1%, some get 1.5%, some 2%, and others are reporting 4-5% per hour drain on various threads and PMs

Chad actually has a kernel built off of 100% stock htc source from htc's 2.17 kernel with no overclocking, no tweaks, no optimization, no anything - (just added beats) even used the same compiler and compiler settings as HTC claims to have used. and this kernel get 2% per hour wifi battery drain, per user feedback on XDA.

but to remind everyone - not everyone has this issue, several others as well as myself get great battery life.

I've seen that kernel on the download site but didn't know what is was since there is no changelog for it. Should some of us be testing that?

I tried that one when he released it: still got 2%/hr. Every version of Anthrax has drained 2%/hr with the screen off for me. Not sure if it's the compiler Chad is using or what but Ziggy takes 3 hours to drop 2%: 3x better battery. I think the only solution is for Chad to contact Ziggy and say... Dude... WTF are you doing that gives you 3x the battery life running the same clock speeds when we both have access to the same source?

I know it has to be frustrating when Chad has cut this cake in every way imaginable... and it still drains the battery faster than Ziggy or stock.

One of the first things he adds in is beats. Would that be the problem?

the complaints are WiFi is draining 2% per hour...
and beats will actually lower battery use during audio play back due to the way sound is processed

saying ^^ that is like saying Chads kernel can last 1 day, while Ziggy's lasts 3 days (x3 the battery life) - 10 hours vs 30 hours, 20 hours vs 60 hours... i dont think that is quite accurate.

and for the stock kernel +beats, Chad used the same compiler, DEFCONFIG and settings as HTC claims to have used.

Wow is Mike taking a break our something? This is the longest without updating since v0.8. But that's cool, I hope he really is taking and break and not just not updating cause he deserves one!
