You lose Wimax if you unlock the Photon, which is required for most custom ROMs. Rooting alone has no effect on performance.

I saw something about losing Wimax if you flash roms somewhere in this forum. Is that the case? Do you lose Wimax if you root/flash roms?

Does anyone know if this is the case for the e4gt as well? Thanks.
No you lose wimax by unlocking the boot loader, but not by rooting.

I have no idea about the e4gt.

Unless you are totally broke, you're crazy to get this. So many better choices.

Also, the locked bootloader blows. Yes I unlocked mine and lost 4G - but that sucks.

Although I greatly appreciate the devs work here - the developer communities for other phones are much more active and many more options.

The nexus is coming out soon. My friend has one for verizon. The devs are insane for that device. They have it dialed in like a Ferrari.

Smile Phone and 4g help!

The motorola photon is indeed a quite amazing phone, I have had many phones in my day and for an average end user, it would more than satiate you thirst for a powerful smartphone. The biggest issue with this phone is that because you are here, I assume OP is interested in possible rooting and custom roms via the unlocked bootloader, and compared to most other phones, this phone really only has a few dedicated devs anymore. So essentially, if you want to run custom roms, then you would be best to stick with the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch because as it is most definitely a flagship device, there will be more devs, but if you want an awesome and fast stock phone, then Pick this up and save your cash!

Also, to all who read this, you DO lose 4g once you unlock the bootloader, but that is only while the bootloader is unlocked. Essentially what you do is unlock your bootloader, flash your rom of choice, then download the attached file (thanks to ACSyndicate for the file!) and run flash it with RSD lite to your phone, then you bootloader is locked again and you have your custom rom and 4g It is pertinent that you not only find a rom that you like (because you have to re-unlock your bootloader to change it) but also make sure it is one with working 4G!

I hope I could help you guys

The Galaxy Nexus comes out Sunday for sprint - it's a beast. Awesome beyond words. I can't wait.

I came from a rooted hero and it was a good choice. I've unlocked the boot loader and rooted the photon. I am running 4.0 and have the hotspots going. Using easytether for that.

To your first question, yes there are better phones, just not on Sprint. about the EVO, off the spec's I'v seen, no, it is not gms capable. to your 3rd question, so do I, thats why i'm keeping the photon until atleast September.

The real reason i keep sprint, I easly average 5 - 10Gb a month. Music all day at work, movies and you tube, facebook, email. Hell, my pictures are 2Mb each.

Samsung Galaxy Note II, stock, code name: "Cujo!" BoxWave Holster for protection!(siggy by DeedScreen)
