Yes, you'll lose root if you format system partition.
You can safely format everything else, but not system.

Thx for the replies. I guess something went wrong and I don't have proper root. Changes in build.prop are not saved. I have no write rights in /system, also I can't change that (at least not with Rom Toolbox). I'm missing the superuser app.

edit: using Criskello's.

To lose root of course

I've asked because I've lost root in ics several times before when flashing between ics roms and restoring a backup and as u know the cause for losing root in ics was formating the system partition
so i figured that either rom installation or restoring backup is responsible for formatting system partition
Asus Transformer TF101 16 GB : EOS JB Build 81 - Kat Kernel 55d
Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 : Chimera 3.0 - Hydracore Kernel 7 STD

Use THIS way to regain your root privileges

The loss of root was because of the recovery, use my guide HERE to be able to backup and restore in ICS without issues

Guys,

I tried a slightly modified version of process:
- Flashed Stock pre-rooted LC1 from this thread using ODIN
- Rebooted
- Used CF InitRootFlasher to flash AbyssNote 4.2
- Rebooted
- Checked that I had I full root => success
- Rebooted in RedPill Recovery and did a full backup
- Did a factory reset, wiped cache and dalvik-cache
- Installed Stunner 1.4.19
- Rebooted
- Checked that I had I full root => fail (after a small time I realised that I don't SuperSU anymore)

Any idea how to solve that?
The_Steph

My Galaxy Note II is using Du@lcore's Du@lNote v11 - XXDME1, pongsters RedPill 1.47, TeamWin's Recovery Project 2.5.0.1 and an exFAT formatted SanDisk 64GB SDXC card
HTC Artemis -> HTC Polaris -> HTC Blackstone -> HTC Leo -> HTC Ace -> Samsung Galaxy Note -> Samsung Galaxy Note II

And if what I wrote helped you, be kind... click on Thanks button

Download SUperSU from here, and try to flash it through CWMR, see if that helps.

chasmodo,

Couldn't flash it directly as CWM did froze on the way. I had to install Abyssnote 3.9, reboot recovery, install AbyssNote 4.2, reboot recovery, flashed it successfully, flashed LP6 repack, rebooted and see that it did not change anything.

I am quite lost. I can be as root as I want on GB but impossible to have it on ICS. Need to install LP1 (by the way, is it Mobile ODIN only) repack to be sure to have these root rights?

Thanks for the tip, but that did not work. CWM is gone too. I guess I have to go back to GB to regain root...

I followed the instruction of the OP to the letter (wasn't that hard hehe) but lost root anyway....

This is a "Windows" heritage.
I did it to try to have the most clean system in the world.
Also I lost root.
The flashed with Odin a GB ROM, rooted it and used the AbyssNote 4.2 to jump from GB to ICS with no problem.
