If you pay $1 to get the paid version of CircleLauncher, you can also do straight horizontal or vertical arrangement of apps as I show on the fourth picture.

Depending on your preference, you may also want to consider UltimateFavPro or Wave Launcher, which also provide similar results with different transitions effects. I just like the simplicity of the CircleLauncher better.

In Apex setting, you can choose to hide the dock bar and use gesture to hide the status bar and activate the app drawer.
