I have gotten a build.prop error as well when sideloading. Going to try and replace it with the one posted thanks.

Ok i can now confirm that if you are getting an error, "error sideloading, build.prop/bunch of numbers, bunch of numbers" when installing via stock recovery. You have made a change to your build.prop that is for some reason blocking the update. It has never done this before on my old d2g or bionic. The only thing i can think of that i changed on my d4 is the dns setting and dalvik heap size. I used the build.prop above and update went smooth as silk. Thanks again.

Ok. I am usually good at this stuff. Can someone give me (or point me to) step by step instructions on how to restore the system apps files?

I first tried es file explorer copying and it crashed the phone part way through the copy.

I downloaded anttek and I'm not going to comment on the intuitiveness of that app as the creator might visit this forum and get upset or disheartened. It seems I can install individual apks but I want to restore the whole apps folder because I integrated in titanium backup.

I created a new directory in the /data partition and used adb to push the files in /system/app from a dump I downloaded to it. I then changed the permissions (chown 644) and file owner (chown root.root) in an adb shell. Still in the adb shell, I then copied the files to /system/app after remounting it rw. The phone did reboot and the copy process took a few minutes, but it did work.

I lost root upon updating my device, and then tried to re-root but it still is not working. I tried unrooting to start the root process again, but nope, still not.

Any thoughts on what I should be doing here?

Just re-run the normal rooting process, and it should work just fine.

I've heard that people are having better luck using the motofail exploit directly instead if the Droid 4 utility for regaining root after the update.

Yeah, I tried using the Droid 4 utility and didn't regive me root unfortunately.

Where would I be able to get directly the motofail?

Default Motofail

Here you go. Just make sure you have the latest drivers and run the batch file as administrator.
