Yeah, that's what I've read, otherwise there is the 8 core AMD.

For rendering and compiling i'd still say the 2600k is your best bet. Unless you want to spend some serious money and go with a SB-E setup..

Agreed. Can linux take advantage of the 4 virtual cores in a 2600k? Idk if there is driver support or not, gonna have to look that up.
