I managed to convert my razr to a maxx last night with parts from maxx purchased from craigs list. This is a simple process. My hobico heat gun came in handy to warm up the adhesive tape enough to pull the battery out. The only complication was knocking off the volume rocker during the parts change. I didn't notice it until I had put the phone back together.

The interesting part is after installing the battery the model number reads droid raz maxx.

Thanks for starting this thread wardo!

I just finished converting mine with the kit from Cellphone Repair Shop that came today. So far so good. My only concern was the door didn't seem like it would stay shut but once the final back piece was on it applied enough pressure to keep it closed.

I just finished mine. Everything is fine now, but some tips:

1. Watch and follow the video.
2. Be careful of pulling the camera bezel off. It is very thin around the lens and can break easily.
3. If you didn't buy the additional frame expect to do some grinding. Even though I did a loose fit and it looked like I could get away without grinding, I could not. Be patient grinding and expect to do more than you think - but make sure you do not break the frame or screw up the holes the plastic pins sit in.
4. I thought I could get away without grinding, so I put the battery in. When it didn't fit, I tried to grind it assembled. Do NOT do this! I hit my battery with my grinder.
5. My T3 driver did not fit any of the T3 screws. I needed to use a T4 - but this could be because I bought a cheap set of Torx drivers.

I took my time and it took me between 45 minutes and an hour.

It needs a t5 torx for the bottom black screws and a t4 for the rest of the screws. If you had to do all of that then that is not an OEM kit.

I got mine from here:

http://www.cellphone-repair-shop.com...oid-razr-maxx/

I was just letting people know what to expect if they ordered the same kit. The site says it's a t3, but it's really a t4. They didn't sell the black chassis when I ordered, so if you don't get one, expect to do some grinding.

The battery and back housing is OEM and that's all I care about.

do you think you lost some water resistance in the conversion process?

I have taken several apart and its t4 and t5 screws. I would get the chassis because flex will happen and you will end up with a cracked LCD as I will show you below.

The phone isn't water resistant. I think it is false advertising to be honest. This is water damage on a motherboard I had to replace for one of my customers below. Notice how water got in and messed up most of the components on the board.
