Default New Shift from 1saleaday

I just received my HTC Shift from 1saleaday. It has an Italian Rom on the WM side and I do not have a working sim card, since I switched from ATT to Sprint a few years ago for my cell service. I have read a lot of the threads and cannot find a way to Liberate the WM side without the working sim card. Are there any solutions for people in my situation?

I've just got the same thing...just cant figure out how to use the usbtool. It never seems to connect for me. I want to put an english rom on this. Also, the version of windows vista they put on there is crap. I restored the italian vista by booting with Alt-F3 and got everything working (did an english upgrade to windows 7) after this.

Default Finally upgraded this yesterday to english rom

Had to use an unactivated sim card to do this.

1. Install Windows Mobile Device Center for vista

2. Follow first 2 steps at to gain access to windows mobile.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377441

3. This part is the trickiest as it seems I needed to use an unactivated sim for this or else vista will keep trying to use the internet connection and disables the activesync connection

1. Turn off wifi
2. Turn on cellular
3. On phone side, start internet connection sharing (under programs)
4. In ICS, connect then disconnect (if it doesn't automatically disconnect)
5. Check vista side, should start activesync at this point. It seems to only
stay connected with an unactivated sim for me.

4. Hard SPL. Basically copy the enablerapi.cab onto the windows side, install it, then run the ShiftHardSPL on vista. Follow this link:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406606

5. Download ROMs and run the executable included in the rom. I used the I00
rom, but it doesn't allow you to load many things after this, so i might look
for something else. Nice to have english on this.

Has anyone tried to pop the keys off the keyboard and rearrange them to an English format? I am a little nervous as sometimes these keyboards are so delicate.

Oh, and I restored the original Italian Vista with the Alt-F3 during boot and ran vistalizator to install English. It seems more responsive than with the English version they shipped and I think it uses less space for whatever reason (not 100% sure about this though)

Default Figured out how to use the usb tool

To use sub tool: Click usb out first then usb in to switch to activesync mode. I loaded up the thaihugo light rom. Much better in my opinion. No crap on it, even removed the autoprovisioning and snapview screen to make room for more of your own programs. These roms are 3 years old, there are much newer programs out there now.

Default crazyjim_68 what did you mean?

[QUOTE=crazyjim_68;25828924]Had to use an unactivated sim card to do this.

When you said "unactivated sim card," did you mean that the sim was not presently active on a carrier. I have an old ATT sim (I am presently with Sprint) and have tried to follow your instructions over and over again and still cannot get it to work.

Hi dony71,

I still have the Thaihugo ROM files with phone WM6.0 1.30+radio 1.27+ sound rec+phone , but I cannot attach them here, they are way too large. The radio.rar has 7MB and the romv2.rar has 35MB.

I have also found stored in my PC the ROM files of "Thaihugo's shift age of reason and age of beauty", which are about of the same 40MB size.

Which version and how do you want me to send them to you?

Ok, got this pretty much working now like I want. Phone and GPS both work for me on the light rom (google thaihugo age of reason). They also worked on the i00 rom, but I got rid of that. I used it with google maps with no issues and I can make phone calls without a headset (using built in speaker and mic only which sucks). I tried everything to get this to work including physically modifying the headset (an old one I didn't use). If anyone has any ideas on this, let me know.

I don't think an unactivated sim was ever needed, but it worked. You can use either, one that is old and deactivated or one that hasn't been activated yet. The reason it was working is it would not allow an internet connection as it cannot connect on the windows mobile side to any networks and would not disable the connection on the windows side.

Anyway, the reason windows keeps reconnecting is that it is trying to establish an internet connection. There are 2 types of connections on this. The default connection when you turn on the cellular is to connect windows to the internet. This will use your settings on the windows mobile side under network connections (settings -> connections -> connections -> select networks). For example, Media net for att. If this is set to nothing, such as My Work Network, it will not keep trying to reconnect on the windows side. This starts an ethernet connection with subnet on windows with something like 192.x.x.x.

The other connection is accessed through the usb tool when you selecting incoming connection. This will also start if you connect internet sharing and try to connect. I used usbtool only now. This will start an activesync connection and is on the 169.x.x.x subnet if you have Enable advance network functionality on the windows mobile side.

The keys on the keyboard are mixed up now. Anyone tried to pop them off and rearrange them? I don't want to be the guinea pig.

Default How to fix the broken links

Hello,

You can fix the broken links on the HTC website. The links point to:
member.america.htc.com/download/Driver/HTC%20Shift

Change the member.america.htc.com to dl4.htc.com leave the file name and the "/download/Driver/HTC Shift" the same.

I'd post an example, but since I'm new I can't include links:

I emailed HTC this information, but who knows if they will ever make the change.
