It does sound like the backlight issues that others are having. However, the specific issue that I have observed on the three One X devices that I have personally used (including my own) is that the issue mainly manifests itself at a lower (or minimum) brightness setting, and typically becomes noticed when the CPU is doing something. So, having a scrolling screen full of grey (or in fact white, or light blue colours too, I notice) and then gently scrolling the screen up or down slightly increases the flickering momentarily. So, in your case, the touching of the keyboard sounds like a similar situation. However, with medium or full brightness, I don't really perceive much of an issue. However, sometimes I do perceive some flicker. To be bluntly honest, using the One X is sometimes like using an old CRT monitor with a crap refresh rate.
Regarding OTA fixes, I'm afraid I can't agree that the fact that the 1.29 update apparently worsened the issue proves that it can also be fixed or reversed in software. Definitely agree that firmware has an effect on it, but the question to be answered is whether it's a purely firmware issue in the first place, or if it's an underlying electronics issue that is just exacerbated (or partially masked) by certain firmware operations. But fingers crossed it's the former!
