No LTE. That's why. Wait until you get to an LTE area. It won't last that long.

Untrue. I'm in an LTE area and I get 2 days with about 3-4's screen time.

Gmail sync turned off, but normal texting, calling, web-browsing, etc.

With Wifi any phone battery will last longer than using mobile data.

Most of us are aware of that. And a lot of us use WiFi regularly so it's still good feedback when comparing to previous phones owned. No matter what I was connected to, my galaxy nexus wouldn't get good battery. This phone also gets better battery life than my Epic 4G Touch.

I could not agree more. I had to create a separate APN to use 4G only. The LTE is fast here in NYC but it is eating my battery alive.

Who said LTE power consumption has improved. Down to 90% from 100% in 25min, all of it just browsing sites like CNN and Bloomberg with screen on auto-brightness.

Although this translates to over 4hrs screen-on time with LTE use. Maybe it's ok.

You should at least turn off auto brightness.... that's a nasty battery drainer in itself....I wouldn't hold any phone hostage over that.

Finally had to put my AT&T One X on the charger last night when I went to bed. Down to 2%. Started 35 hrs earlier at 95%, about 2 hrs listening to music over bluetooth (not streaming, locally stored music), 2.5 hrs total screen on time. Mostly on wifi, but some LTE (I'm in Houston, speeds are simply amazing, 30+ down and 10-20 up). Battery life, to me, is great and I'm now to the point that I'm contemplating selling my unlocked Galaxy Nexus simply because I don't see myself using it much anymore. Especially now that we have root and I'm hoping a method to unlock the bootloader soon....

I was under the impression auto brightness helps battery life.

lol okay let me get something straight.

The new standard for testing real battery life is the following?

Be constantly in an LTE area
FULL BRIGHTNESS
syncing 4 email accounts.
Playing crysis on the phone for at minimum 1 hour.
and most definitey no wifi on.

This correct?

Yes, I think we should all test constant WiFi and constant 4G separately.

And like someone else said this in the other forum, if you turn off SYNC. You don't need a smart phone. You need to start using something like a Nokia 2110 again.
