I noticed yesterday that after updating Dark Meadow and my phone going funny and seemingly downloading twice I had lost 1GB of space and dropped to my last 200mb. I hooked up to my pc and checked the size of all the files and folders and it turned out I had lost 3GB of space!

I did the transfer data and format and have also restarted the phone twice and now I have my 3GB back but the phone is taking ages to do anything?

Looking at SystemPanel all four cores are working, my memory usage looks about the same as previously and the loaded applications and processes looks fine so what could be causing this severe slowdown?

I formatted to Fat32 and 16kb clusters as recommended.

@TremF

Format it through the phone settings instead of your PC.

Settings>storage>erase phone storage

Hmm? Everyone else says format with PC as others have lost 1GB or so when formatting with the phone?

If that might work then I can try it later when I finish work...

Update: I moved some of my games to internal storage . I still have the space I reclaimed from the format and the phone seems to have sped up again. It's not like I was short of memory so I don't know why it was slow as I hadn't changed anything from before the transfer/format.

Default One X serious SD storage issue, disappear more than 16G which is not used at all

me too here:

When I "Ctrl+A then right click, then view Properties" all of my folders on my External Storage, It Came up with only a total of 8+ GB...

Now it's says on my PC and from my phone settings that I only have 303mb left on my device????

but I thought the external is 25GB??? where the hell is the remaining 16+GB Memory left??

the weird thing is i can't copy files that is more than 400mb from my pc because it's saying that my memory is FULL, but I can download apps that are more than 500mb from the google play using my phone.....

I've read all of the message here, but seems formatting the external using either phone or pc, is still unclear...

please help, whoever knows the real fix....

@onat_kippz there's a hidden section of the memory called system reserved which randomly gets larger, use the Diskusage app to see how big yours is.

I don't think anyone really knows the solution, it seems like you have a choice of having slow read/write speeds but all 25GB to play with when you use windows to format. Or having normal read/write speeds but losing a gigabyte or so if you format using the device.

Here's hoping HTC fix it with the next update.
